JDM V8, 6 speed project in 07wrx
I'm doing a 6 speed swap, and i gathered most of the parts but, my sti tranny has male front stubs, but my wrx axles are male. Is it possible to get the inner CV joints and stubs from a 02 to 04 wrx and swap them on my 07 wrx inner front axles? Or do I have to buy early wrx front axles?

I would just get a set front 02-04 axles the GSP ones are like $60 each new.
Or you can just pop the stubs out and change to the 04 sti outputseals. |

so the 02-04 wrx stubs are the same as the one's on the 04 sti? do I need any other items to complete this? so are you saying I can pop the shafts that are in the transmission and use my male wrx shafts with different output seals?
by the way this transmission is a JDM Version 8 with dccd |

From the 6 speed swap FAQ in Newenglandsubarus.com
If you have a Female 6mt and a male front axle car you will need the following: 806735230 Oil Seal x1 806735240 Oil Seal x1 I am not sure how you get the stubs out of the transmission. I had the opposite issued with my 6 speed swap. I had a female transmission and female front axels. So I had to get 05.5+ wrx front axles. I know on the 5 speeds the stubs don't come out without opening up the case. |

I have the female 6 speed and female '02 axles.
So I bought stubs from an '04 Sti and popped them in, and swapped the oil seals. The stubs from the Sti are very similar but not at all identical with those from the WRX. The main difference is that the Sti ones are installed from the outside and retained with an elastic ring. It's not a circlip. This ring gets compressed into a groove when you're installing it. I never took out the stubs from the WRX 5 speed, but have been reading that these have a deeper groove and installed from the inside , with a circlip. Because of the circlip, they cannot be removed without splitting the transmission open. The other thing to watch for are the sundials, make sure to reinstall them right after you replace the oil seal. Since your transmission came with stubs, it's probably an early style, where the sundials have to come out, for oil seal replacement. |

Vlad are you saying I have to split the case to even replace the seals?

The stubs for the 6mt can be pulled out without splitting the case, a slide hammer will pop em right out. You will need the appropriate oil seal to match the male axles.
Or you can switch to the female axles from an early 2004 sti or if you are fine with the weaker WRX axles, any from 02-early 04 will work. My friend did the yank out the stubs method but was having trouble getting the right seal for the male axles. he ended up reinstalling the stubs and getting female axles. |

The Sti stubs should come out no problem. The WRX ones will not.
The Sti oil seals will not just come out, you will have to take out the little "threaded dishes" that support them. Then you replace the oil seals from inside that part (known as a sundial). Later 6 speeds allow seal replacement from the outside. |

Yes you are correct Vlad, I forgot that we did have to remove the threaded dishes to remove the seal from the inside.

Alright so my easiest route is to get either female sti or wrx front axles, now I have a question about my driveshaft,... Supposedly I can use my stock 07 WRX drive shaft and change the flange on my r180 to the r160 flange. My wrx driveshaft doesn't have the weak ball joint like previous years, it has the strong universal joint in the center.

So I completed the swap and everything worked out great except for the abs I think I need an STI ABS pump and module but as far as driving goes it was perfect!!! Here are a few pictures of the swap I'll be updating this information with my experience and what to look for when you do it

I was able to retain my stock 07 WRX suspension and brake calipers since 2004 STI rear spindles and hubs are 5x100 it made that possible. And the rear2 pot brakes bolted right up, but you can't use 04 STI rotors because they're too large you must use gc8 Sti rear rotors with a max inner diameter of 190 to clear the e-brake assembly inside the hub
