I think I am getting this same problem. But it is around 54-64 on deceleration. I thought it might have been some of the mods I have done but I took them all off and am still hearing it. I put it on a lift and didnt feel anything weird in the driveline. Any help would be appreciated!

Default Don't know if you did this yet....

But, check the gear oil to make sure it's not low or leaking.

Well the verdict is in, The dealership is replacing the output shaft bearings at the rear drive shaft and center diff.

Hope this fixes it.

Okay, bad news. Bearings were replaced and they still hear the noise.

No one seems to know what is up with this noise. anyone else have a clue?

i just had mine fixed this morning. Have them put it on a lift and run it and listen to the rear differential. Mine was howling loud enough that it was easy to pinpoint. They replaced the differential in about 2 hours. I test drove it and my car is QUIET!!I did not realize how much noise my car was making! I tried replacing the fluid with synthetic to cure the problem before I took it in and I used redline. They ended up putting some mobil 1 synthetic in to replace it. Great place!

My friend and I have noticed a similar noise. I had an 01 RS, 04 WRX and he has an 02 WRX. All of these cars do it at 60 mph. My friend and I think that it has to do with car being lowered and something resonating at that certain rpm and speed. All of these cars were lowered. Perrin springs on the 02 and Eibach Pro-Kit on the others. I don't think the dealer would replace my rear diff, I am sure that I voided my warranty a while ago.

thanks for the input guys.

The dealership is still working on my car. at this point they are replacing all the bearings on the 5th gear as per Subaru's instructions.

They investigated the rear diff, center diff adn front diff and found that the oise is most likely coming from teh 5thgear/pinon shaft combo.

At least it was not my imagination

Well after 49 days and lots of replaced tranny parts they finally replaced the rear diff. Finally, my car is back and fixed. Thanks for the advice guys
