Unhappy Thinking of Ditching the WRX...

so guys i really just have hit that wall.

im so tired of spending money on a car that cant even keep up with hondas. I have thousands of properly spent dollars into my ride. But i just think its time to go EVO.

my mods
stock 2.0l
intake
exhaust
68HTA
e85
rad
ic
1000ccs
dw 350
nitrous ic spray
full tunes

i just dont get it. is there a better platform that can atleast get me to keep up with something????

it seems that all you have to spend on any model EVO is just 2,000 and your already at 450wheel

version 7 is too limited
ej257 are ticking time bombs

am i just at that point that EVOs are really going to be a better power plant?

and suggestions

the wrx is an all around good car but probably not the best car if you want only the most power or fastest times.

I bought mine because its a comfortable, well handling, decent power car with great aftermarket support.

the evo is smaller in the backseat and cheaper interior.
However, it is faster and cheaper to mod, but expensive to buy into.

locally evos are going between 16-21k for 03-06 models. similar to an STI, but way more than a wrx.

i have to agree and support your good advice man.

my car truly is fantastic and its over 300wheel and pulls harder and harder everytime. I cant believe how reliable it is.

and my old momo interior is the **** lol!!!!!! you know bro?

but i really am looking to go faster, even if buying into costs more upfront. subarus out here are expensive they hold crazy value in CO

- Rebuild the engine for a few grand with racing parts. Stop your bitching and keep it. ticking time bomb vs. crank walking ..hmm... equals out to be about the same with a less expensive price tag on the Subaru.
If you want to drive around a 40k EVO XXXXRIIVVV that looks similar to a giant praying mantis then go for it. best of luck to you.

I agree with the op 100 percent, to have a fast reliable subaru costs alot more than it does to have an evo...but there are cons to having an evo too.

Have to say I agree to some extent. I have had two subarus now (lgt and my current wrx) and I'm not too impressed with the power capabilities. Awesome durability though. But when it comes down to it I'd take my old k20z1 way before these subaru 2.0's any day. High compression, low boost. Made 326 hp on 11.5 lbs of boost with a relatively large turbo that spooled faster than my 16g does. I miss it, but I definitely don't miss the fwd. Now we can talk about theoretical Mumbo jumbo all we want but there are definately better engines out there than these Subaru 2.0s and 2.5s

You started off with the lowest output usdm motor, then put a lopsided small-ish turbo on it and are mad that it doesn't keep up with evos? An sti would have been a better comparison

the last thing im trying to do here is bash my subaru. i love my car.

so keeping on topic, im asking for suggestions, right now if i were to sell my car i would need about an extra 10,000 just to get into the evo scene.

what could i be looking at as far as a budget like that to spend to make some serious power, im just trying to see what is worth you know?

and yes i agree, we think my trans has a RA gear set, because i make well over 300whp.

and no im NOT trying to do an sti evo comparison. i agree sti and evo would be a better comp, but i dont have an sti.

what might you guys reccommend for a motor, trans? if the cost is over 10,000 to get me at 450whp then thats why i may go evo...

I think an ej207 with a rotated turbo in the 35r range on E85 is capable of 450whp. A 6sp/r180 swap can be done for under 4k without the brembos. That's a little under 10k if you play your cards right and do the work yourself.

i love my ticking time bomb (sti)..and my 2.0L :P...i would not complain if i were you..i have a stg 2 automatic wrx wagon lmao...try building boost in that in 1st gear and get back to me..had some kind of hope that 17pound tune up pipe headers and turbo back would make it faster

Yours is definitely much faster than my stage 2.

But I enjoy how it drives and am not competing with anyone else.

There is always something faster but if you want power and speed, definitely go with something like Corvette, M3, Supra, Mustang, Camaro, Viper... etc.

do us all a favor and go buy and EVO, and go about modding it just as wrong as you have done to this current WRX. Youre car is 10 F*ing years old and not modded correctly (its half ass at best) yet you expect it to beat EVOs. And nitrous???? oh boy......

Serious OP, EVOs are 3x the cost and 3x problems, 3x the insurance and dont forget 3x the Ego. So have fun with that

Not once did he say he wants his wrx to beat evos. He wants it to keep up to Hondas. And how is his car modded incorrectly?

Those Hondas are still going to beat the Evo. Had one, 06', turbo back with tune that was strong but those light turbo Hondas are hard to beat. The handling is the only place the Evo shines.

+2 How is this car modded incorrectly???!?

Maybe you guys need to reread it cause his mods are a perfect combo for a fast stock ej205. The Nitrous is used to cool the IC so thats only helping

OP: do what Ill proly end up doing: full ej207 swap for 7.5k and a rotated 30r kit. should do 350-375whp on pump and 425-475 on E85 tuned correctly (dyno jet numbers). Plus after you sell all your old parts you'll easily get several Gs back.

yea no one could drive a stock wrx trans with 350whp....it'd blow up at idle proly right?

Didn't you know, the mods have to sign an agreement to make it as unpleasant as possible to post here?

That turbo eats **** but noobs constantly buy this mother****er, and really this is exactly what i am talking about concerning not doing your homework on your car and parts effiency.

How is version 7 to limited and ej257 a ticking bomb? I would stop hanging with the mother****ers teaching you this **** and start over on your own.

As soon as someone lists a few grand worth of power mods then follows it up by "Full Tunes" it automatically discredits the entire post.

Enjoy the parts and labor cost of doing a clutch or turbo upgrade on an evo. Cake walk on a Subaru.
