S-afc?
I have some parts on the way...
- Fidanza Flywheel - Cobb Intake - Clutchmaster Stage I Clutch ...and have really been reading up on some past posts info just to get a good feel of what those mods will do and what should come next... In general, I've heard a lot about S-AFC's (I'm assuming that means Air/Fuel Controller)... and my question is what exactly are these? How do they work? What kind of performance gains can come from this?, etc. Basically any general information will be greatly appreciated. Scott

For reference the S-AFC has a slight "issue" when used on '00 - '01 2.5RS's. The ECU in these cars will learn what the S-AFC is changing and over time will "correct" the changes made by the S-AFC. In order to see the benefit of the S-AFC's changes, the ECU will need to be reset every few weeks to clear out what it has learned.
on the '98 -'99 RS's the ECU does not "correct" the changes made by the S-AFC so it is more effective on these years motors. Just a heads up... |

Opie,
I was under the impression that the 2000+ Impreza ECU learns around the S-AFC only during closed-loop mode, while the S-AFC still was effective in open-loop mode. Isn't WOT where you'd want the most change anyway? Just curious. ~Paul |

i basically have the same questions, i am interested in getting a little more power out of my 02rs that already has cobb CAI, custom midpipe, scoobysport axleback, and gfb pulleys. I have already tackled suspension with cusco rear sway, cusco stbs, and eibach prokit.
I am looking towards something like the s-afc. or the cobb access ecu reflash (not out for my car yet). my question is.... dont people with wrx's use these? dont they essentially have the same learning ecu as us? we need to get to the bottom of this! ha ha its funny,, cause my post doesnt help! So I guess the real question is; who has a S-AFC actually installed on a 2000+ RS and what proven improvements has it made? |
