Does anyone here / can anyone here drift?
So I've been watching the drift bible (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIRT1...lated&search=), and I have to admit I'm gtetting pretty jazzed about the whole drifting thing, it looks like a hell of a lot of fun. They even have a whole "episode" on how to drift an SW20 (which I own). I was thinking of headin down to the local track (which is unfortunately over an hour away) and ripping through some tires. Two questions:
1) Like the title says, anyone have any experience? I've done several auto-x's and a track day or two, but I've never tried drifting (well, really drifting at least, I've pulled the old e-brake on occasion and flung myself off the track). 2) I have a new tranny which I'm putting in this summer, that is equipped with a clutch type LSD (stock '93 tranny). Is it just not worth tryin with my current open diff? The impression I get is no LSD = no dorifto.

i spent a run session at vir tossing my car into corners and sliding all over the place. it was more of an excersize in recovery without losing speed, but i guess you could call it drifting.
i also got to run in the rain with my 2.5rs wagon, and that was harrowing to say the least. you pulled your e-brake on track? please tell me this was an autox or something. hard trail brake + speed + let off brake in middle of turn = sideways gas = straighten out this formula will work regardless of lsd. i dont see the point in drifting as a goal, but it is fun to slide around once in a while. |

It's entertaining to watch for a few minutes, but I can't say I'm really into it. I'd really like to get on a skipad though, it's a great way to learn car control.

Good luck.
Just make sure you're with a drifting club. Most normal "motorsports" clubs don't allow drifting, and neither does their insurance. Our local club had to disallow drifters at track days after a talk w/ the insurance rep. |

Well, There's only one track within 4 miles of here, and it's not exactly fantastic. I'm getting kind of bored. I think the arguement of drifting versus racing is like gymnastic versus boxing. One has a more concrete goal of beating the other person, while one is simply a subjective contest of how well a person can control their body. I see the merit in both, and I actually agree that I'd much rather be racing than drifting, but it looks like a lot of fun, even just practicing it. Why not?
