Default Jiffy Lube messed up my tranny i think

So i went to jiffy lube for the 15k mile tranny change and thought that i would be doing a good thing for the car. I asked the guy which fluid i should us and he said that subarus use Mobil 1. I took his word for it and let him do it. I should have know that he was full of Sh** when he asked if it was AWD. Anyways my gears are grinding now. I cant put it in 1st from 2nd at full stop without grinding it in most of the time now. Before i changed it i had no probles at all. Now i have to go get it changed again and hope that it is not that bad. Im problaly going to use redline or neo.

Do not get your tranny fluid changed at Jiffy lube!

exactly what city was this Jiffy Lube located? I don't even trust them to change my oil properly.

I haven't been to a Kwiki L00b in quite a while because of stories like this.

Tur1smoWRX,
So Mobil1 isn't a good choice for tranny fluid? Do you know then, which brand offers the smoothest shifting characteristics?

There are a lot of threads out there about using synthetic transmission fluid... search or check out the tranny forum. I'll let yall draw your own conclusions..

Why you would listen to advice from a Jiffy Lube guy about your car is beyond me...

Yeah...I switched to Redline oil, and not too long after the 3rd->4th synchros went. THere's been a lot of talk that the synth tranny oils are TOO slick for the the fragile WRX tranny. I'm running cheap Coastal synth/dino blend in the new(er) tranny, and it's been doing great. Going to change the tranny fluid this week and I'm going to put in whatever comes stock in the WRX.

We use Mobil 1 Bulk ATF and Subaru ATF for warranty work. We have never had problems with either as far as gears grinding and such. I am not saying either of these can compare to such brands as redline etc... but I have never compared them. I am just saying that perhaps you should look a little deeper...who knows what Limpy Lube could have done to your tranny.

[Edit - I'm a dweeb and leave words out of my sentences because I have to keep walking away to answer the phone.]

Actually shortly after i got my 30k service done (where they change the transmission oil) my first gear synchro went. This was done at a Subaru Dealer. I'm not saying that there was no chance i could have killed it but just seems weird that it would just go right after they change the oil.... In any event it wa sfixed under warranty and runs fine now, although I am much more careful now when i downshift to 1st. Just seems like the WRX tranny's aren't that good, of course this has been known for a while.

Is it possible that Jiffy Lube simply didn't fill the tranny fluid to [anywhere near] the proper level? A lack of fluid would cause grinding as the syncros wouldn't be able to do their job, as far as I know.

i have been told to use BG synchroshift. Mach V sells it and people say it is the best.

See, enough people use Mobile1 without problems, synthetic or not.
I'd bet its Jiffy Lube's fault.

One thing you might want to check. If they didn't put the plug or crush washer (whichever is on trannies) back on the tranny after filling it, there might be a leak.

One thing I learned after the tranny broke on my Lexus. It can be filled with fluid, but not start to overflow and leak untill you run the car and the fluid heats up. You should probably get a couple quarts of oil(whatever weight, etc. the owner's manual recomends) top off your fluid and drive to the nearest dealership and have them check it out.

Also, look under your tranny in your parking space to see if the fluid is leaking after driving the car. That will let you know if its leaking, or if it may be another problem.

Last thing. You may not want to hear it, but we all know the WRX's tranny problems well, it may just be that your tranny was going to go soon anyway.
