Help: 1993 Legacy wagon looses power at 65mph
My buddy has a 1993 Legacy wagon with 188,000 miles on it. He bought it at 130k. We don't know if the timing belts were done ever before that. Haven't been done since (shoulda done it at 180k). Its a automatic 4 tranny.
When he hits 65mph on the highway, the car begins to shake, and he looses power. He convinces it to get into 3rd gear, and he can get it up to 70mph and its fine. If it shifts into 4th gear at 70mph, its fine. If he slows to 65mph in 4th, it shakes again and he looses power. If he keeps it in 4th while its "loosing power", it just shakes and he can't go faster or anything. Any ideas? My bet is the timing belt, but maybe the auto-tranny is going. |

timing belt really is not a speed dependent thing....it'd be more of an engine dependent thing.
I'd probably look at the tranny if the car performs fine in all other gears. You may want to check out www.bbs.legacycentral.org as well. |
