Depends on what manufacturer/model of handgun you are looking to purchase... However, as a member of the armed forces, you are eligible to purchase firearms under what most manufacturers call a "blue label" program. I have experience purchasing/selling firearms under the blue label program for Glock, Springfield, and Kimber. Although, I have been told most of the other major manufacturers offer similar programs. (Furthermore, you can call the manufacturer themselves and ask about their MIL/LE programs.) Under these "blue label" programs, an "authorized" dealer is required to sell you blue label firearms at a pre-approved price set by the manufacturer. In the case of Glock and Springfield (the manufacturers I have personal experience with), you will pay a few percent over dealer cost (savings of a few hundred dollars per gun). An authorized dealer is NOT allowed to markup the pre-approved price - they can have their "authorized dealer" status revoked if they markup a gun designated for blue label sale. In WA, you pay for the gun and tax.

There are a few caveats... You will probably not be able to buy a blue label gun for the "mrs." I'm pretty sure the deal only applies to the service member but, you are probably gonna have to ask the dealer/manufacturer. Also, the gun must be designated by the manufacturer as a "blue label" gun (or whatever the manufacturer calls their MIL/LE program). Furthermore, the manufacturer may significantly limit how many "blue label" guns a retailer will receive. In my experience, if there are a significant amount of LE/military/ex-military employees with a lot of discretionary income working at the store, most of the blue label stuff will be sold in-house since it is usually cheaper to buy on the blue label program than at dealer cost (not only is the gun itself cheaper, but they usually come with more accessories than a civilian sale). Nevertheless, a good store should be able to get you a gun however, it may take a few months.

My biggest advice to you is to find a dealer/employee of a dealer that you trust. Listen to their advice and make an informed decision. And, don't EVER go into a gun store/range and tell everyone how big your dick is and how many confirmed kills you got when you were a Ranger sniper Seal Team Six member. The staff has already heard that story from the last 99% of customers. The staff doesn't care who you are or, what you've done in the past - all they care about is if you are cool.

BEWARE:

Dont try and buy ammo from walmart if you are with someone under 21. When I tried to buy ammo they asked her her id also because she was standing beside me... Apparently its walmart policy. -.- Needless to say I went to a different walmart. Shooting at The Marksman tomorrow around 6:30-7.

thanks for the great advice!! I had no idea about the blue label program, I'll definitely ask about that when I get back and don't worry I'm not going to brag about how many confirmed kills I may or may not have LOL

Ugh, yeah I use to work at walmart in the sporting goods section. Some of the rules with how they handle guns and ammo is beyond ridiculous. I've been getting most of my ammo from http://www.freedommunitions.com/ they are pretty legit.

I just picked up 500 rounds of 9mm for just under $106 shipped to my door. I put 50 rounds through my baretta 92fs today no problems and it appears to be a lot cleaner then the $20ish 100 'value' packs of Federal.

Wow. Good price on 10mm there. I just dropped $70 on 100 rounds out of desperation last weekend. It would have been cheaper, but I'm not putting that aluminum garbage through my 1911.

For practice ammo in 10mm the cheap stuff is fine, but you'll have to do your research for what you'll carry (if you carry). The real full power stuff is very rare and only a handful of companies make it anymore. Some of these companies like doubletap are being accused of lying about their velocities. DT advertises their 135gr @ 1600fps, but people at home chrono it at up to 250fps less.

There are a lot of factors that can hamper velocity so you'll have to make your own decision if you believe their numbers. Fyi, some handloaders are going up to 1830fps for a 135gr but that's getting dangerous in my opinion.

Also, do some research on what types of barrels can handle full power loads. Some 1911's can't handle it like the delta elite.

My Glock 19 needed a friend so I am picking up a Gen 3 17 after work today, Found one used with night sights that I could not pass up.

Surplus Ammo and Arms behind Tactical Tailor

They are marked in the case with the red dots on the price tag.

My 19 came from them and was once a LE duty weapon trade in that was refurbished from Glock.

Stickman's build up with aftermarket parts renewed my interest in getting a full size Glock.

Northwestfirearms.com has a huge for sale forum that moves very fast. You can find great deals on there every day. I picked up my Wilson and Seecamp there for a steal. I also found really good deals on my reloading equipment and components. I've even sold a few guns there.

If you don't know the laws for private firearm transactions you're welcome to pm me. They're pretty simple.

Yeah, thanks. I use Hydra-shoks in my 10mm when I carry it. I prefer them for 10mm and 380.

No worries. It's tough to find good info for 10mm stuff. If you're looking for really hard hitting stuff check out Underwoodammo.com. They're very popular with the 10mm crowd. The stuff in that link is their 155gr that does 1500fps and gets 775ft.lbs. Just for reference, a .45acp 230gr hydra-shok only gets 414ft.lbs.

I only shot full power 10mm on occasion. But when I did the difference was astonishing. When you touch a few of those off everyone at the range will snoop around to see what you're shooting because they assume it's something really big.

Yeah, it's always fun turning heads. I normally get looks with just how many I end up bringing most days.

That's what I'm doing. Just seeing where I can find some stripped lowers locally so I can cut out a ffl transfer fee.

Unless you buying private party, you would still have transfer fees.

Umm, As far as I know you don't need to pay FFL fees if its IN stock. Now the local gun store prices aren't going to be as good as you see for a cheap PSA stripped lower, they are going to mark it up.

I think it'll still be cheaper if you buy online and pay the transfer fees. PSA usually does their $50 stripped lower sale around the holidays. The transfer fee is set by the shop so look around for who's got the best price. It's been a while since I looked into this but if I remember right, gunbroker has an ffl finder app on their website that also shows what they charge.

Your right. I was thinking about the NICS fee. That would still be applicable if buying a lower from a FFL.
