My dream is now destroyed. I was hoping it was a Tribeca replacement.

^ You and me both. I really want a Subaru that I can comfortably fit my 4 growing kids in.

Somebody at MotorTrend applied some Photshop "fill-flash" to the released image in order to lighten up the darker areas and they decided it depicts a two-door vehicle. I see what they mean.

That would make me think perhaps this is an attempt to gain opinion on next-generation WRX styling without unveiling it. I realize this does not jive with what SOA Blog just posted.

So it's a design exercise on an STI coupe. I can dig that.

These solid bars look good. I hope they'll stay within the headlight housings on the next WRX. If the Advanced Tourer is any indication they will. But now there's this Viziv which shares the same face otherwise, so...

as long as they're using solid lines instead of strings of dots...

From the Motor Trend article- "The rest of the car is obscured by shadow, but brighten it up a bit in Photoshop and the lines seem to hint at a two-door body style. If that’s the case, the VIZIV could preview a small crossover positioned against the Mini Paceman and other small, sporty ‘utes."
I would find something like that very interesting. We're starting to see more small crossovers lately (Nissan Juke, Buick Encore, upcoming Honda Fit, Mazda CX-3, Fiat 500X), so maybe MT is onto something. |

I can't see Subaru having the gall to implement that on a road car (which would be awesome) or make a 2/3 door crossover (which would be whacky.) |

Going with the Gull wing concept...wasn't one of the "Tourers" a gull wing?

MY 2015 will be the new Outback. MY 2014 is supposedly the last year of production for the current Tribeca. If Tribeca is discontinued, it has been said by Subaru corporate officials on record that if Tribeca is discontinued they will make a 7-seat Outback for North America.
My prediction: MY 2015 will be an all-new 7-seat Outback and this concept vehicle may be an prototype of what will be a more refined final version to be unveiled in a year. Wildcard: The concept is a prototype version of a redesigned Exiga that is suitable for the US market? |

That's not entirely true. They said it would be sold in the USDM as long as it met safety standards. Though they sounded sure it wouldn't last long saying just that too.

There is an article where a Subaru exec said that there would be some sort of 7 passenger replacement for the Tribeca, but they didn't say it would be a 7 pass Outback.

This is exactly what they said regarding the Tribeca. They'd just continue to sell it until they couldn't. Which was a serious downer since I'd really Subaru to completely redo it or offer something similar. Like the Exiga. The Tribeca has fallen way behind what other brands are offering for a 7 passenger vehicle.

I thought it was Subaru Australia's Nick Senior who said that, if Tribeca went away, Fuji owed it to the American market to make a 7-passenger Outback.

Is there really a market for another barely-enough-room-7 seater? I've never seen a three row that could fit adults and luggage.
What is the point of three rows if you can't take luggage? Only a Suburban can do it, I think. There aren't enough jobs for people to keep having big families. A 5 seater should be PLENTY of space. |

^ In thinking about this, I can see the market for a barely large enough hauler getting larger. People are downsizing vehicles in the name of economy such as they did in the name of lower emissions, ergo tax brackets in Europe a decade ago. Clever packaging and a generation or two from now and people will be fine with this reduction in overall vehicle size.
