Have you made a thread on HIDplanet? Someone over there might be able to help better, cuz after looking at the pic you posted I honestly don't know where the extra light would be coming from.

as far as it being evident on both lights, the part i find strange is that if you look closely, its not even on both. the driver side has a noticeably larger spot than the passenger. and as i looked closer today i noticed that it appears my driver side has a bit of light leaking off to the left as well. i will take a better photo this evening to show what i am talking about. |

My retrofit did not go great either. I may have found the issue, though.
The light seems to be reflecting off part of the bi-xenon mechanism. If this piece were removed or covered with a non-reflective material, the problem would be solved. I don't have time to open my headlights for another couple of weeks, but if someone wants to try this solution, let us know how it goes. |

With the Mini D2S that I use, if I pull the connector that mates to the bulb down, the hotspot can move down a noticeable amount. Try to see if the hotspot on yours also move, and see if the unwanted bright spot disappear once the hotspot is vertically dead center (wrt the cutoff). |

^ Good point. My bulbs do NOT sit as they normally would, they're tilted so as to get the hotspots at the zigzag cutoff point.. maybe that's why I avoided the little parasitic spots.

The hotspots on my Mini D2S are slightly below the cutoff point, but I don't observe the rogue spot mentioned by the OP. Looking at the geometry of the parabolic reflector, shield, and the solenoid area, the bulb has to have quite a tilt for any parts around the solenoid to reflect rogue spots. That's what I hypothesized mattesonb has on both D2S units. (since the hotspots seem rather low for such a close distance wall picture)

i'm going to play around with them tonight and see if i can either make it better of fix it by better aligning the bulb in the housing

Good luck. From this and another thread ad hidplanet, there doesn't seem to be other Mini D2S owners that had / noticed this issue (myself included). When I was actively researching which retrofit projectors I wanted to select, the only issue I recall seeing with the Mini D2S is tweaking the hotspot location.
On that note, I initially assembled the rubber washer and c-ring in reverse order in one of the units, which resulted in the bulb in that unit being easier to rotate when the end cap is pushed/pulled. What I noticed was the hotspot was a bit low compared to the other one. Once I reassembled the washer & c-ring correctly, the hotspot was much more centered, and a bit harder to nudge off center. |

there is a thread on 3gwrx with my issues.
the spots you're seeing above the cutoff are very likely caused by the horizontal shield that moves the cutoff shield up and down. I painted mine with a flat-black grill paint and they went away, but I caused another issue. When warmed, the paint caused the high beams to stick in the high position. I had to rip the headlights apart and remove the paint, so don't go that route. I had major issues getting the hotspot correct with oem bulbs. the reflectors in these just suck. and get ready for bouncing on rough roads. I don't know what the hell it is, but I think it's the cutoff shield. Some say they don't see it, and some do. oh and another issue, the TRS brackets, at least the ones I was supplied with, are two different thicknesses. Who cares you ask? well it aims the low beam down. Does that matter? why yes, it does, because then you need to aim the whole housing, including the high beam, up in order to set the cutoff correct. My halogen high beams now point to the trees. I hate my TRS kit now, but I'm too lazy and cheap to fix it. If I had to do it again, I would have gotten TSX's and bailed on the bi-xenon function (oem bi-xenons are too large for our housings, from what I've found) |

After all the hassle, I do love my D2s. The problem is that it took FAR more headaches than it should have, given this is a retrofit, and not a crappy kit in Ebay headlamps. IIRC, a "new" version of the D2S projectors is in the works.

then when you get into it the directions arent really correct, there is no clear instruction on wiring up the harnesses, and when its all said and done they havent really been able to resolve the issue with light above the cut off. to top it all off now that i want to return the kit i am being told there will be a 25% restocking fee because apparently large rainbow colored blobs above the cut off are "within the norms of the d2s" WTF!!!! |

Did you get the Phillips bulbs or Morimoto, I have the Phillips and mine don't have any light above.

Phillips. Again, a D2S should be a D2S, down to a micrometre of alignment of every single element. Someone just got really lazy at TRS so as not to make the bulb sitting position perfect from the start. Using spacers/silicone/tiewraps so as to put it where it should be is lame (though fun..if you have time and beer).

My headlight is producing the same "hotspot". I had it professionally installed and everything is bolted correctly.

If you guys cared to do more research, you would have known that the correct Morimoto projector to buy isn't the D2S, but the H1. Why? Because the H1 bixenons are better in every regard.
