Good deal for $450, I'd be excited! Be sure to post more pictures when it comes
p.s. gas tank might be a pain for a DIY'er due to the differential, good luck! |

well strange story really, as im researching more and as she tells me, the body is a 97, the engine is a 1.8 from a 96? im super confused as to how the models and years of the impreza go, http://www.parts-specs.com/Subaru/Im...tioncar-009342
this has been the most clear so far, ALSO it has the little "brighton" sticker... isn't that only a sedan? thats what the previous owner upgraded to, meaning this one could be mine for $450 |

Alright, so it stopped raining and i got to take a better look, its a 1997 body and 1996 ej18 swap. its got new plugs and wires and alot of crap on the engine, its going to need a good cleaning.
the heart transplant... i hope the last guy knew what he was doing... some unplugged wires...no big deal.. theres about 5-6 of these around the engine bay. |

The Brighton was the bare bones model. If the engine came from a newer vehicle, those plugs are likely for features that weren't included on the Brighton.
I hope your new car treats you well, sounds like you will be getting very familiar with it. Welcome to the community! |

I got mine for $1100.00 but it is a california car so it isn't rusty anywhere and it runs and drives. It is really dirty though. I'm fixing it up for my daughter.

so i fixed the rear lights with some rubber foam adhesive, its basically thick weatherstripping, and it works so far.
cleaned the rear seat grossness as i was cleaning i felt my knee "break" through somthing in the floor.. all i could think was "great my car has a 6" hole of rust right in the middle of it" it was under the soundproofing stuff (which is from factory, because theres no blue paint under it) so i peeled some soundproofing back to find this... covered with foil tape... WTF SUBARU! also i was cleaning the rest of the interior and decided to take off the center console and clean all the little plastic bits. i removed the plastic around the stereo, deck, headunit thing (cant think of the actual name) to find that whoever installed the deck should go back to school.. i guess the only tools this guy used were wire cutters and tape... forget solder and heatshrink... i also found out why my rear wiper isn't working... can you spot it? |

That rubber "dum dum" is what is used to seal the taillamps to the body, replace that foame you put in there with dum dum or it will leak.
That hole covered with tape should have had a rubber body plug on the underside, somebody removed it or you popped it out with your knee. As for the rear wiper wiring, very common with that era GF. |

the foam is more of a temporary fix, i'll be painting the car soon and it was raining for a while and just wanted a dry interior hahah
the foil tape must have been put there by the factory, thats the original soundproofing and the underside of the tape showed signs of weather so the rubber was never there (plus i can see the ground underneath ) the thing about the hatch wiring is that the washerfluid hose was also cut (or sheared) and the wires looked cut or sheared aswell. i guess someone got lazy? |

The wires and washer hose were not "cut" they split from years of opening and closing the hatch. Happens all the time on GF Imprezas. |

@hondaslayer
the hatch thing makes sense, and i'll check around for the plug when i move my car next. @kel i got the thick layer of dirt off with engine degreaser and a scrub brush, its about %60 clean, i'm going to be taking all the rusty stuff out and using electrolysis to get the rust off then hit it with some por15, im also going to paint either side of the engine bay (taking battery and airbox etc out)with some more por15 after i get a safety. well it snowed and the impreza is feeling a little cold hearted towards me not changing the struts before winter, ordered struts and tophats from rock auto for under $400, buying some nice winter rubber from canadian tire and getting it on the road, FINALLY!

One thing to check is the gas filler neck. Subaru put a cover over it to "protect" it but all that cover seems to be good at is trapping mud, salt and water around the filler neck and allowing rust to form. It was the source of some very annoying CELs and fumes after fill up on my 98 OBS.
