A cut out will only alleviate any backpressure created by the catback section of the exhaust, you still have two cats in your downpipe that you are flowing through - and those create most of the backpressure in the system. The biggest thing you will notice will be noise.
Electric cutouts have also been known to leak over time as the seal wears.
Installation requires welding in a flange for the cutout, so you will want to have a shop do it, unless youre good at welding.

Personally, I am not a fan of cutouts.

Everything said here, is true.

With the stock downpipe in place, you are looking at next to no power, for a lot of noise. Seriously 3-5whp at best.

With still having cats in your downpipe, not much. Intake wont get you but a few horses unless its tuned for it. A tune would still be very mild, considered "Stage I" as you still have your stock downpipe. Like stated previously, a cutout won't alleviate much backpressure on a stock exhaust/downpipe.

As dave/defiant mentioned, you'll gain 5whp, maybe. If you tune, this number will be the same regardless of a cutout or not.

What you should really be looking at is replacing your downpipe. For the same money, you can do that, and then you'll open new sets of doors performance wise.

Next to nothing. The problem with the factory post turbo exh is that there are 2 cats, in a very restrictive pipe, before the catback section. If you are pushing things a bit harder at stage 1, you may get 1-2whp more than if you were stock+cutout. You are still looking at 6-7WHP at best. You can buy an HKS downpipe for less money, and get a LOT more as far as gains. Depending how much the cutout you are looking at will cost, plus the labor charges to install it, you may come out far ahead with any of several downpipes.

Evos are NOTHING like STi's. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.

Stop asking questions, and read Unabomber's Manifesto on the top of the Newbie Forum.

Yes. Easily. Unfortunately for me, it means I cant you any of the parts, but its not hard to do.

I can tell you that the mod list your buddy suggested will get you, at best, .2 maybe .3 in the 1/4. Nowhere near >12.5

We aren't going to hold your hand through this. You need to read through Unabomber's Manifesto, all of the FAQ's regarding exhaust, engine management, and power modifications.

Here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=533787

Read this. Come back when you have questions on the things you've read. It should take you a good few days to get through half of the things you should read. You need to be EDUCATED on a subject before you start modifying. For the sake of you, your wallet, and your car.

I can get it even cheaper.

used HKS downpipe ---$75-100
Open source stage 2 reflash --$depends. Good custom tune with OS is usually about $300
dump 2gallons of methanol into the gas tank. Give the car a little time to get used to it. This isnt for more power, and you dont need special tuning for it, as 2 gallons will only net a small octane increase, BUT, you will get maxed out ignition advance multipliers, and you wont hit a spot of det that will pull them down. Good for 5-8whp (somewhere about that) over straight pump gas, with no additional tuning.
practice. Practice a LOT. 04-05 STIs will run 12.9 BONE STOCK with a great driver. The 06-07 is only slightly slower, and with tuning and that downpipe, its going to be essentially the same as the 04-05.

I have a buddy that knows how to tune, and knows how to drive, he is running faster than 12.5 for under $150 total.
used HKS Downpipe --$50
home depot home made MBC about$5
open source tune $free. Did it himself
Used TurboXS short ram intake $50
Home made heatsheild for intake $10 in sheet metal from home depot

You could outfit your car with two Veyron engines, you could still run a 14.5. Quarter mile times are terribly variable as it depends more on YOU than your car. And we have no idea what year your car is. Fill out your profile as a 2006 Scion tC doesn't really help us on the Subaru forums. Years make a difference as to recommendations. I suggest you PM Defiant Autospeed and handle this all offline as he will do you right.

+1 for Defiant. WORST salesman EVAR! He tells you how he'd go about it and save money rather than try to get you to buy the most expensive stuff.

What really annoys me is how much I push Blouch (because other than a few $$$ brands like ATP and such) and yet I cant get a good wholesale source so I can sell them Same with Samco and Kartboy (although Tom said I should email him about it, I just havent gotten around to it yet.)

+1 for driver.

Put me in an STI
Then put a GOOD driver in the same STI

The other guy will run .4 (at LEAST) faster than my time
And sadly, for some reason the average Subbie driver is even worse than me.

Oh, and thank you Ron

To sum up the sentiment here, and even the FAQs / Manifesto... research before you ask questions. There is a TON of information here, but you need to look for it. And yes, we all start out by asking questions, getting spanked, feeling butthurt, and then reading all the info out there. Then, we start giving sage advice like "Search, n00b!".

Tuning Subarus is not like tuning an evo, or a honda, or whatever the cool kids drive these days. Upgrading your intake before upgrading your exhaust is a waste of time and money.

Start with things that relieve back-pressure on the turbo (like a full turbo-back exhaust). This will require a tune. Then you get to say "I'm runnin' t3h stage thr33zor!"

At this point, take some driving lessons. I'm not talking about your local defensive driving course, either (though, that won't hurt). Go to some track days and get someone to show you the ropes. You're not Sebastian Loeb and you're not Lewis Hamilton. Learning how to better handle your car will make you a faster and technically better driver all around.

Next, work on things that restrict flow from the exhaust ports to the hot side of the turbo- up-pipe, porting and polishing, etc. Now would be a great time for a custom tune!

Suspension- These mods WILL enhance your car's performance. A well crafted suspension package will help your car corner better, which will allow you to apply power in more aggressive ways. You should take more driving lessons now. A lot more. You're officially driving a fast car that will eat up the miles on your local track. Learn to drive it properly, and you'll get to enjoy everything the car has to offer you.

Now, look into things restricting flow on the cold side of the turbo. You're still probably not taxing the flow of the stock intake, but this may be a good time to upgrade it anyway...since you're an addict now. Either way, these upgrades won't show a ton of HP increase, but they will clear the way for your next round of (crazy expensive) mods. An upgraded TMIC might be nice, some heat wrapping and blankets, cold-air intake, etc. Tune or not is up to you here...probably not going to make much difference.

Fuel system - Like the intake, upgrading the fuel delivery system here is going to cost money and won't deliver much more than a smoother tune. Higher rated fuel pump, injectors, rails, etc. These clear the way for the next mod, which will kick you in the ass.

Turbo- Now is a good time to choose a good turbo and search your soul. The second you go for a larger-than-stock turbo, you're officially sunk into the car. A good turbo from a reputable vendor plus all of the needed supporting mods is going to cost you a chunk of change. You've officially spent a year of payments at this point, and you'd better be enjoying yourself.

Divorce- Your wife and kids have left you, no doubt. Your family has sent the police to check on you, and you've been fired from your past three jobs. You should probably get a sponsor or 17, because you're driving a race car.

New car- You've probably outgrown the STI, wrecked it, or blown it up several times. You clearly also have enough spare cash kicking around to buy a car that is better stock. Look into a Farrari or an Audi R8.

Can you close the valve while your driving? or do you have to be at a stop? or the car needs to be off?

I read and read and couldn't find anyone mentioning anything about that....
