Default Intake Valves: Do these look okay?

About 35k miles on the car. Should I be worried about the level of buildup/deposits on the backside of my intake valves?

Question

What brand of gas do you run? Any fuel additives?

What kind of gas do you use?????

I'm sure any extra weight on there will prob contribute to valve float - but prob not a big deal

They have some stuff that burns that off - but no sure if it could damage other parts of your engine ????

I use chevron or texaco 92 octane, and occasionally a 20% toluene mix with an ounce of GTA fuel enhancer.

I use a 7200 rev limit... AFAIK I haven't had any valve float problems...

Looks ok to me for 35K. I mean, whatever residue there is seems to be pretty "even", as opposed to "spotty", which is a good sign.

Looks good.

Thanks.

FWIW, that is cylinder #1 (hehe... easiest one to get to while holding a light and camera...). All other intake valves look very similar.

Hard to tell from the pics, but it is residue, and not coking right? (Just asking, I don't even know what the stock valves are made of) I've always used Marvel Mystery Oil for deposit cleanup. Reduces detonation as well (1-2 oz./tank)

I have heard of a few guys who use ATF. Run about a quart of it slowly through the intake via a vac port by pinching the hose that sucks it in. You'll need a second guy to run the car at a high idle. It'll smoke like mad from the exhaust. Afterwards, you need to change spark plugs.
ATF is some pretty cool stuff.

Hmmm... I've never heard of that before. What component of ATF makes it burn deposits off?

I think the fact that it seems you have grass on your head there is what worries me the most.

No, just use water and keep the idle around 2500. Just spray water into the intake with a mister or spray bottle. It is a proven method of removing carbon build-up. MG recommends it in there owners manuals
