Default How many of you read a daily newspaper?

I don't mean a website, I mean an actual, printed-on-paper, newspaper. Just curious...

Only time I read the newspaper is if I'm on the train, forgot a book, and someone left one sitting on the seat to me. Other than that, nope.

It shows up everyday on my doorstep. From there it gets moved to the table. My cat likes to play with the orange baggies they come in. Once that gets too annoying I skim through them (about 4 days worth) and then throw them out. Skimming = reading front page and comics/entertainment section.

That kinda what I had in mind.

I grab a paper every morning and read on the subway/train to work. I usually do the crossword puzzle on my ride home. Makes me happy.

I think I'll keep at it when I move out of NYC, but the whole public transportation commute makes it perfect for reading. If I end up getting a car again, I'd have to find the time to read one, but I think I'll keep at it.

dad's in the printing industry, i support just about any application of ink to paper.

I read The Star Ledger (NJ paper) everyday, along with Barron's and/or the WSJ on Sundays.

I read the washington post online. Same content, so I'm not sure what the difference is.

We get the Sunday edition delivered, FWIW.

I feel that by actually reading a newspaper, you get exposed to more than just the basic headlines you're fed from a website. Unless you're actively digging through each section of website, you're missing out on lots of stuff. You also have to deal with oversensationalization of every goofy story about fingers in chili, or dogs that drive their master's cars instead of seeing articles that actually have meaning.

One thing I hate about pages like cnn.com or abcnews.com. Too much fluffy bull****.

Go to a newspaper-specific website. It's a different kind of experience.

I read the NY Times every morning. I do use their website, but you really don't get the same exposure from the site that you get if you're even skimming the paper. It's much more active having to flip through the site, so you're more inclined to skip whole sections.

Speaking of other news sites, like cnn.com for example, here's what I hate. Their Top Stories:

Lead item-Japanese train wreck. It's unfortunate, but I don't think it should be the most important story of the day. It is, because it's a tragedy.

U.S. indicts Afghan drug kingpin- Important stuff, not bad.

Iraqui death toll- Should be the lead story, but the train wreck has a higher body count.

Bush seeks healp on oil prices- Informative, and something on everyone's mind. Ok.

Pope Benedict prayed not to be elected- mildly interesting, but at most, a special interest story.

Missing toddler needs medical aid- A regional story, but kidnappings = ratings! Ugh.

GM recalls 2 million vehicles- Informative, but not headline-worthy.

U.S. anthem proves tricky for Canadian- cringe worthy singer ****s up the National Anthem, falls on the ice. Not an important story.

Walk your dog 3 times a day or you're fined- Kill me. Why is this on the list of top headlines? Ugh.

See, of that list, there are maybe two or three really meaningful articles, and the rest is ADD fodder. but this is how the majority of the country gets its news.

Honestly, I thought the filibuster issue would be up on cnn.com's list of important news items, but walking your dog in some italian city trumps that.

Oh, and Layman, get that Mets info outta there! At least they took two of the three games.
