Default How do you remove front axle from the diff???

I am trying to replace my driver side axle seal on an '02 WRX but i can't get the axle to pop out of the diff. I have a 2ft pry bar and have been placing it between the transmission and green part of the axle. Even using a LOT of force the axle won't budge. Here are the instructions that I am following:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1097344
Anyone done this before? PLEASE HELP!

Nooooooo!!!! Stop prying!!!!!!

Those instructions are for a newer design (2004 and newer I think) with a male cv joint. That's a 6 speed with conversion stubs to allow compatibility with '02/03 axles.

Your car is very different. On your '02 there is a roll pin that holds that green axle section onto the splined axle stub/output shaft (which is part of the transmission).

Look at that green cv joint... now zero in on the smaller diameter section of the green cv (closest to the transmission)... spin the axle... you will see a little pin pressed into a hole that runs through the small portion of the cv. You need to drive that roll pin out with a punch and the cv/axle assembly will slide right off of the transmission's splined axle stub.

So the axle stub/output shaft is part of the transmission on an '02!!! I'm such an idiot. I knew about the roll pin, but I thought the whole stub could be removed like the newer ones. So how do I get the seal out if the stub doesn't come out?
