Thumbs up Can't wait to see real world stats :)

I'm really excited about the new STI with the 2.5 l engine, but I can't wait to see real world numbers, I hope it's all that better than the 2.0l model.

what I am hoping for is that subaru will follow the Japanese tradition of grossly understating HP.

see, there used to be a Gentlemans agreement that no car could be over 300 HP (JDM vehicle), which is why you saw every Evo, Skyline, STI, RX-7, Supra, etc.. listed at 276 HP. Did it mean they had this, no....this is what is claimed.

The Gentlemans agreement has since been broken (Lexus was the first to go over 300 HP claimed on a JDM vehicle), but most companies still follow it.

case in point, the JDM Sti is actually baout 300 HP, not the 276 claimed.

ohw ell, just my hopes

The agreement is actually 280ps. Some people say the JDM cars are actually what they are claimed yet, there are some people say they are actually more. No one really knows since AWD cars wheel horse power is so different from fly wheel that you can't really pen point the exact horse power loss from the drivetran.

I think what makes the JDM cars fast are the gearing, they have very short gears like rally cars so they can pick up speed from standing still really fast.

In terms of the capabilty of the 2.5L shortblock, ponder back when Cobb Tuning swap out a EJ20 2.0L shortblock from a USDM WRX project Conebasher for a stock 2.5L.

Here was the results with the EJ20 head, 18psi of boost with a SR50 turbo.

422HP to wheels is not bad...

Regarding about the stock STI tranny, didn't Al's STI equip WRX run high 11's with a stock STI 6spd tranny???

I agree, I can't wait to see real world data and some reviews from auto journalists...anybody have any idea when these reviews will pop up.

The EVO was in the states many months ago (however not the dumbed down US version) for journalists to play with.

Lets see some speed data

Since no one has a production model to test that would be no. Anything you see now is just speculation based on gearing and HP estimates. Look for magazine tests, C&D, R&T, MT, etc., in the next month or two.

Dunno how real it is. But while at NAIAS last Friday a spokesperson was talking into the mike to the crowd while showing off the car, and they said:

0-60: 4.7
1/4 mile: 13.2
