Default 05 STi rumors

Trying to verify info.

Also, looks like the '05 will be here around June/July timeframe with some
minor tweaks: one new color (diamond grey) which replaces white, modified
steering rack and suspension, wider wheels (8.0" - assuming new design) with
235 section tires, wider rear fenders, underbody aero panels, revised
interior and a stereo. Oh yeah, and a helical type front diff. This info.
is for the Canadian market, so it might not mean anything to the USDM, but
it probably does. I have to believe the price will go up at least
$500-$1000 as well.

235 is not known.. Accomodate wider tire != 235 standard.. they might have wheels @ 8" but leave 225s... I hope Not though (getting ready to fight Brandon)...
Immobilizer will be standard!!

Never believe what your dealer says about future models (unless it is a new model, then take their info with a grain of salt). It is almost never in their best interest to tell you all the goodies on the horizon, as many people will then just wait for the future model.

On the other hand, I don't think US dealers know ANYTHING about the '05 STi yet. I talked to SOA this morning, and even they didn't know anything (or simply refused to pass the information on).

As was stated in the linked threads, these rumors are for the Canadian STi. Why they got their info before US dealers, I have no idea, but it could be related the the multitude of STis still sitting on dealer lots. Anybody know if sales (by percent, not total number) in Canada have been stronger?

White IS NOT going away. The Grey IS the new color. I was told this as a confirmation by a reliable source.

Yes, we've been through this on other threads. White is not, repeat, "NOT" going away or being replaced.

Helical, like a Quaife or Torsen.

They're a good option for road use. The Suretrac rocks on snow/dirt, but on pavement I just found it too wander-y.

I still can't believe you guys aren't sniffing around the rack change.

don't you think subaru is kind of wierd by making so many changes the last few model years? people said it was bad to change the body style after 2 years and now the year after that they are making even more significant changes...

Not as long as things keep improving. Personally I think most of what is listed above as 05 updates is someone's wish list. Kind of funny that each change addresses each short coming ever published about the current model. Cool if it's true, it may make improvement parts for the 04's easier and cheaper to get. Bring on the JDM good stuff.

most manufacturers are continually updating thier model lines. some with significant changes, others with minor tweaks here and there. for example, in 1995 ford released the all new mustang, the GT used the 5.0L engine still, in 1996 they replaced it with the MOD 4.6L.

in fact, if there are issues or complaints durring the middle of a model year, it is not uncommon to make a small change here or there. for example, the mini cooper s was determined to have too harsh of a suspension, so they adjusted the valving in the struts midway through the production year. if you had a build date before july you got the old style, after july, new style. same model year.

the thing is, you just don't notice it on camrys and cavaliers, because you aren't as into them as you are your subaru, if you go and check out any board, you will see that they all have year to year changes.

I'd say probably one of the manufacturers that does the least year to year changes is honda/acura, and they still do them.

good info. So you do guys think that one should go and get an '04 sti or wait for the an '05. I did get offered a great deal on and 04 and wonder it i could get the same deal on an '05, but i wonder if its worth waiting, or even true.? Are these tweaks going to make the 05 sti that much better appearing and performing?

Depends on your priorities. Assuming all of the information is correct and relevant to the USDM (which isn't likely), you still have to take into account what you WANT to pay for an STi. Basically every dealer is selling the '04 for just over invoice or at invoice without any haggling. You'll have to work for a deal on an '05 when they arrive, and you'll be waiting a few months before you get a chance at one. So, what if the best you can do is MSRP on an '05? Assuming the price goes up $500, you'd be looking at $3000 more for an '05 than and '04, and a three month (minimum) wait.

Are the (possible) changes worth that kind of money to you?

One thing is for sure, changes or no changes. Initially you won't get a good deal on an 05. Probably for several months after release they will be MSRP. If the changes do happen look for MSRP+.

IIRC, the VIP program only covers the '04 MY STi, and would still cost more (invoice + $500) than simply dealing with a dealer. Of course, this is IIRC.

I still believe the '04 is the better deal RIGHT NOW.

I think it depends on location..the VIP deal is better if you live in Socal and cannot buy the car for invoice unless you go far away

right now i can get an sti for about $100 under invoice. I have a feeling i could probably get an '05 for 500 over invoice. We have bought several subaru's from them in the past and i think i could get that kind of a deal from them. My dealer said the 05's are coming out sometime in Late May/Early June, any conformation to this? Maybe i will wait till the NY auto show in a few weeks and see what these new changes are all about...

I've had an STi quoted at $28,495 from a NY area dealer. I'd say that's a sweet deal.

Depending on the changes...
In any case, I would wait until the 05 information and cars are out. The dealers will be a lot more willing to deal on the 04 cars and you can get a much better deal then.

The 05s will go for invoice+$x and wont be anywhere close to MSRP. The dealers will have learnt from the 2004 cars.

Correct.. Maybe first month they will TRY to sell '05s @ MSRP, then as stock piles up, deal and wheel @ around invoice prices...
