Default faded aspen white paint + newly painted parts... what to do??

Hey guys,

I have a quick question. My car had been keyed a while back and I had my doors, bumpers, and hood repainted. I also have the problem with my Aspen white 02 paint turning yellowish. When I got the car back I could definately see the colour of the newly painted items was more pure white than the rest of the car. I didnt think too much of it then..

Is there anything that can be done about this now? Can a detail or bodyshop polish out the original bodywork to make it look new again? should i try rubbing compound or clay bar?? or am i screwed... ?

here is a pix.. as u can see the trunk is yellowish compared to the bumper

White is nearly impossible to get a good match on... I just got a bunch of work done so I know.

I say just let it go... In a few months after you can start waxing and stuff, it shouldn't be so bad.

you can try "clear cut" or "clear polishing" (these are heavy duty stuff)
before that, you can try "swirl remover" which is a finer and nicer treatment before clear cut or clear polishing.

Do a 3 step waxing program with a paint-cleaner as the first step and don't use a buffer with a cleaner.

Cleaner
Polish
Wax
Sealer Glaze.

This will most likely help you out.

bump. because I'm in the same situation.
Would claybar'ing take away the yellowish hue?
Or should I just repaint the fender and add some "yellow hue" to it to match the already faded white?

not sure you can do much if the paint was a mismatch to begin with.

Exactly.

Paint WONT fade in a few years of car ownership!

It was just mismatched by the bodyshop, and mixed wrong.

Funny because I have compared my newly repainted bumper/fenders beside a brand new 03 WRX and the colour was exactly the same. It was the body parts that were originally on the car that were offwhite/yellowish. I have a feeling the turtle wax i used may have contributed to this..

i think many other ppl with aspen whites know what im talking about..

in the collision industry there are different types of clear coat systems. clear clearcoat and there are some clearcoats that have a slight color to them. i'm not sure what the factory is using but it is most likely the body shop is at fault with the color match. your paint would not fade in the little amount of time the car has been on the road.

if u would read my previous statement.. i dont think its a problem with the new painted items.. its the original paint that is off..

i forget to mention that some parts of the car with original paint seem fine.. but places like the trunk really are showing their yellow!

The different clearcoats sounds interesting.

I was thinking maybe a dirt film caused the discoloration. But then again, I washed my car pretty often. I've only allowed it to be "dirty" a couple of times in the past 2 3/4 years.
This weekend I will do a thorough detailing of the entire car.
My bodyshop said that they will repaint the parts again if I can't get the original paint to match.

it may be oxidation or leftover crap from mother nature. sometimes not even a good waxing isn't enough to remove that stuff.

i would try to have the old paint fully detailed (without touching the new paint if it is that fresh of a paint job). it may just be a bunch of grunge on top of your clearcoat.
