And for me reid-o I spoke with Dom and I could get the link with the knock block for better knock control / protection or the vipec with integrated knock control for roughly the same price. I opted to go with a little more precision and get the knock block. I'm almost wishing I had bucked up and got the V88. Seems like inputs on the pnp are at a premium or I'm a dumbass.
Good to know. At least I can say I didn't get a vipec because it wasn't available. Heh

Man that add on display thingy looks cool too. I wish I hadn't gone to the link website now.

after some more pulls / logs i left timing almost same as before, when i raise it i start to hear little ping noises from headphones.

Valve terrain is lout as **** especially on cylinder 3, so i turned gain on 3 about 30% down so it wouldn't **** up my threshold, everything else looks solid to me.

My body was changing oil on his 2011 sti today and showed me interesting test with oil Russians do.

You pour oil in metal spoon and start to heat it up with lighter, and some interesting things came up:

1. Castrol 5W50 started to smoke crazy and started to boil quick and then turned all dark.
2. Schaeffer Supreme 9000 "green stuff" did better was holding up for loner but still smoked bad.
3. Eneos was the best, took long time for it to start boiling and almost dint smoke at all!

This test might sound stupid to you but i trust it more than all the online sponsored tests

You can't hear them properly anyway.

Do you see a lot of other Subarus with busted #1 or #3 ringlands? Even built motors on the factory ecu usually only show knock in 4 and 2.

it isn't a perfect engine. You can't treat it like it is. If you want to listen to #1 and #3, add a second knock sensor

true that! the best way to find good cylinder noise balance is to run down hill in 2nd gear from 7000 down to 2000!

Why do you need engine load to listen to the valvetrain

load keeps the pistons firmly against the walls and keeps them from rattling around causing extra noise.

I used some eneos in my engine and I loved the results.

I was using the 5w-30 oil. I did have to top off, but otherwise the moly count was very high. The last 2 reports were with eneos.

I want to go back to it as well.

Maybe its just the dyno?

Does it spool the same on the street Bariga?

Either way 500 wheel is 500 wheel

Chris
Correct me if i'm wrong, but the main reason for spool/high RPM on a long rod motor is that the piston will sit at top dead center longer which equals more explosion and less load/angle on the engine bearing making them safer and more efficient at high RPMs.

I'd PM 3MI/homeadeWRX or maxwell power on this. There are many things that go into it that I don't fully understand but if my understanding is correct the piston acceleration from TDC to BDC is different as is the dwell time at each extreme, and less piston side loading which equals less wear.

Anton,

Are you using idle ignition control to help with your idle? Closed loop or open loop E-throttle idle control?

I have the open loop setup pretty good but wanted to try ignition idle control to see if I can get a more stable idle below 1000 rpm. My 272 non-AVCS cams are real finicky below 1000 rpm.

yeah its on, helps a bit!

not a fan of closeloop fuel control at idle, makes AFR go up and down in wave form.

then you have to adjust the gain at low rpm.
