if you properly disconnect and unistall the ap from your car the dearlership probably wont notice because if the car runs fine they are gonna by it and sell it. if you dont unhook it the dealership might know if they are smart because they can tell by the power if you were running stage 2 on it.

Default Accessport Detection

I ran the v 1 AP on my 2002 Wagon from 2003 to 2010. (Now has OS with the hybrid build) It was in for warranty issues I admitted that a number of Cobb products were installed. There was never a problem!

What I have noticed if folks having engine problems it is frequently from not tuning or bad tunes because they were cutting corners.

You can purchase from Cobb with confidence. In 2003 the AP was revolutionary. When I look at the larger variety of AP versions, it is clear these folks know what they are doing.

If you blow your engine, build a new one.

I also have 161K on my "glass transmission". If you treat it right, it works fine.

Yeah, I am. Try reading the whole thread.

Since there were no service records to correlate the update he started the finger pointing.

I have been looking into getting AP for my 2011 WRX but have been very worried about warranty work. I think this just helped me make the plunge!

After reading the entirety of this thread, and just out of curiosity, does anyone have info on what information is stored in the Subaru ECUs (i.e. starts/stops, run time, revs, speeds, gear shifts, etc.), and how long that data is stored for?

I'm just curious about this info since it always seems to be up to debate. Forgive my ignorance here as well, but if the ECU is reset with a battery disconnect as some people suggest to periodically "refresh" the ECU to match a driving style/location, then wouldn't that appear in the ECU data as well with no ill affects down the road? Basically, it appears to me that someone could drive their car like a bat out of hell, reset the ECU by means of a battery disconnect, then drive again for a few days, and when the dealership looked at the data, there would be no record of the abusive driving except for the noted ECU reset. Presumably, most people do change their batteries without the help of a dealership anyway, so there would be no service record of an ECU reset from that...

So, say i take my new wrx in for an oil change and I have the stage 1 AP tune, and they just so happen to be curious and hook up a scanner while im not present and they see that i have a tune on it, can they keep that info and if something happens use it against me? and if they do that is that voiding my privacy and i could take them to court, Correct?

Of course they can keep that info and use it against you. You modified the car. They have a right to keep that on file so when you come and say "my ringlands blew and I don't know why" they can go "here you go let us help jot your memory. Oh that's right. The tune you installed" it's not an invasion of privacy when you brought the car into them for work.

warranties are for toasters. I would not worry about it on your Subaru.

With all these Tuned cars, has COBB seen more than one OEM tune on say the 2011 WRX? I'd be interested in knowing if SOA is making adjustments to the stock tune themselves.

They don't generally touch the primary portions of the tune (i.e. boost/fuel/timing) with same year revisions (and even across different years that have essentially the same hardware). The only cases where they have is when there was a major problem with the original mapping (04 STi and 08/09 STi).
