Default Whats the word on the Tein EDFCs

Anybody have some general info on how they work, how they perform and if they're utterly useless or not?

for those that don't know, the Tein EDFC is an electronically controlled suspension system

electric boxes that sit on top of the regular tien struts .. that turn the adjustment knobs electronicly...control box in the cab (which is too small if you ask me)

there are several threads float around about this but that is the jist of them

Yeah, but does anybody have them? Will they only work with Tein's or any similarly adjustable coilover?

Just keeping this thread alive for more info as it becomes available. Oh, and a search for Tein EDFC only returns this thread so far.

Well according to the tein japanese site the cost will be approx. $395 US, but I don't know what that includes. It might just be the 1/4 din sized unit and not the control boxes that go on each strut. I don't know. I also don't know what struts these will fit on, there might be a special strut that this works with, or it might work with any of their struts. Who knows.

My main concern is that the areas above the struts on a WRX are rather space limited. I don't know if that box will fit in the space we have. In the front the hood might sit too low and in the rear the rear seatbelt retractors or the rear deck might interfere.

Guessing by the pic that I posted above I'd say that the control boxes are roughly 4" square by 1.5 to 2" tall. But that's just a guess based on the fact that the control unit is a 1/4 din size.

Here's the site:
Tein Japan

For some reason my browser isn't translating the site correctly even though I have the japanese language plugin so I can't tell you more than that.

Default The Scoop

Ordered the Tien Flex dampers and control unit yesterday. Dampers were 1740 shipped (to Hawaii) and control unit was 380. Control unit comes with the electronic units that sit above the shock to move the "clicker" adjustment. With Teins, you usually have 16 adjustment degrees. Add the control unit and you get "half" steps to double the adjustment degrees to 32. 380 seems very reasonable to allow me to go from full soft to mid, to full hard and back while sitting in the car eating some fries. Should be here in about two weeks. Oh, the Tien Flex is selling fast and also includes top pillow-ball mounts. My grand total was $2200.

Default Teins

It seems that they don't want to say they'll work with all applications before knowing how much space on top of the shock certain applications have.

My Tein Flex's and EDFC should be here on Monday

I'll install the same night, but may not be able to hook up the EDFC and wire in the same night. I'll post some install instructions, pictures and a review when it's done.

And they are selling VERY quickly!!!

Default Installation...

Figure on at least 2 hours for the EDFC wiring install, sans custom installation of the control unit...
Also, be sure to leave some slack in the wiring b/c the front units will move slightly as the steering wheel is moved...
