Actually, after looking at it again tonight, the glove box LED is more of a very dim, orange light. kind of weird and ugly IMO. Going to look at it tomorrow in the daylight to see how difficult it would be to replace with a white LED.

I noticed the same, it is lit and I hardly ever look in it so I'm leaving it alone

I have an orange glovebox LED, the LED is very small and not very bright though, which seems kind of weird seeing how everything else is illuminated in red.

I too would like to replace the LED if possible.

When i look into the glove box area, above the actual part that folds down there is a small hole that looks like it would be the perfect size for an LED to light up the box, but there is nothing there. Going to try to get one installed if there are other people that have a '12 premium model that have it.

Can someone post a picture of the glove box with the light if at all possible?

I did some research online and came across this news release from Subaru itself:

http://subarustaging.iconicweb.com/download.do?id=320

If you scroll down to page 25 it clearly says that on premium and higher submodels the LED illumination is supposed to be there.

Not trying to be anal or anything, just saying, in so many words, that if I pay a decent amount of money for a brand new car I want all the advertised features to be installed in it.

I just happily discovered the same on my non-sport premium. Thought I didn't have one because I only tried to use it without the key (in my windowless garage). I was sure there wasn't a glove box light because I turned the other interior lights on to see inside!

At least the headlights don't have to be on, but needing a key is a pain.

I got a reply from one of my local dealerships regarding the light I am missing, and the guy who emailed me back says I should have one and that their service manager is going to contact me about setting up an appointment for it.

Since this was not installed in my car, even though it was supposed to be, will I be charged anything for it? Thanks to everyone who's given me some feedback about their cars as well.

I have the LED in my glove box.

I also noticed there is a space in the center console pocket for a LED. The WRX and maybe STI have a LED in there. Does anyone know if this part is available to install on the Impreza?

I would love to see an elegant after-market solution to provide ambient lighting for the cubby hole, the cup holders, and the foot wells. And when I say elegant, I not only mean that the installation is tidy, but also that the illumination is tastefully dim, and functions well. I'm imagining lights that turn on when you open the door, fade off when you close the door but don't turn on the headlights, and turn on/off with the headlight switch.

The footwell illumination kit for the WRX fits the Impreza. You are supposed to hook it up connecting with the cubby hole light, but in the Impreza this connector will also fit the glove box light. It looks like they all use the same connector. The LED for the cubby hole is called a "lamp pocket," but I don't see the wire harness available for this anywhere. I'm sure the harness for something else should be able to fit.

^^ Are you suggesting that the glove box light's wiring powers on and off correctly for other ambient lighting applications, like footwell/cubby/cupholder lighting?

According to this thread, http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...php?p=38292339

Poster bobbypty was able to install the footwell illumination kit via the glovebox light, though having to add extra length to the wire due to it being designed to connect to the cubby hole. The glovebox LED is always on when the headlights are on. It is not connected to any switch within the glovebox door.

Thanks for that link. That would answer my wish for footwell and cubby lighting. Now to figure out an elegant way of illuminating the cup holders.

The cup holder solution in my TDI was interesting. VW didn't put the light in the cup holders themselves. Instead the illumination came from the console up on the ceiling of the car (where the sun roof knob was) and illuminated the cup holders from above. Those tricky Germans.

my accord had that, was a blue light right up by the sun roof cluster, just wasn't bright enough to be useful imho

Probably not elegant at all, but the easiest way would be to use the 12v plug in the armrest.

My '07 Tribeca has both a red LED in the sunroof button cluster (gives a gentle red glow to the console area at night) and blue LEDs in the cupholders.

You just need to upgrade your ride to a Tribeca!

Just wondering so how would the map lights be different in illuminating the cup holders?

The map lights provide too much light. In my TDI, the overhead light that illuminated the cupholder was a very dim, focused red LED. You'd hardly even know it was there until you started looking around, wondering "Where's that light for the cupholders even coming from?"

I don't think it would be a difficult mod.....

If you do it, document it well, and it comes out nicely, I (and others) will follow your lead.

May the force be with you!
