Default Look what was in my intake

No wonder I've been feeling light headed lately!

But seriously it's a ball of lint or some ****, looks like someone did it on purpose because I don't think something that uniform would just get sucked into the intake over time. It might have built up, but I don't know.

That thing is the size of a soccer ball.

That's a mouse nest by the looks of it. Has your car been sitting?

Yep, looks like some sort of insulation. I blame man bear pig. Or mice.

Well I probably have hantavirus now.

Longest my car sat for was a week when it was in repair last month for a week and a half, but my bet is they drove it in and out of secure storage daily. I don't think this was in there after that though.

It almost... looked like little microfiber towel pieces. But that would be like an entire microfiber towel sucked up in there, and I'm pretty sure I'd notice that.

It really does look like a mouse nest. They will definitely make a home in such a place. I've seen it.

I didn't see any mice or mouse **** in it. But it's still possible. I'm going to stick some mouse poison around my car from now on.

Edit: looked up mouse nests in cars. That's 100% it. They're about to die though.

Semi related, is the intake on these 2.0i (and I assume other late subaru models) better than a lot of similar cars? Because the intake temperature will be within a few degrees c of the outside air temperature, and I've heard that modifying the intake is somewhat of a waste of money. And also that some cars have extremely restrictive intakes.

Yup, mouse nest. Find them all the time in Subarus. Back in December I opened the air box up performing a 30K maintenance and heard rattling. The resonator and inlet side of the box was full to top with small acorns. Chipmunk had him a serious stash. Fortunately the OEM air inlet on the radiator support is only big enough for mice and chipmunks.

not uncommon. we had mice stashing dry dog food on the exhaust header of mum's car. interesting smell whenever she stopped. when we found what it was, oh god the laughter...

My mom had a 1973 dodge charger and in the exhaust a few nice thought that was a good spot to make a home. As the car was not a daily driver we had stored her for the winter and in the spring when we were bringing her out for the first time about 4-5 mice came running out the tail pipe as we drove it down the street.

Your DRYER intake??

Or by some strange coincedence, maybe all the socks I lose in my dryer get sucked through a black hole in space and time that empties out under the hood of your scooby.....
