Default 235/??r17

what sidewall height would I want to go with I know a 225/45R17 is taller than the 215/45R17 so what aspect ratio would be good for a 235 if I figure a 35 or 40 would be about the same sidewall height as the stock 215...subject matter experts correct me if I'm wrong. can I even stuff a 235 on the stock 17'' rim? plus to complicate matters I want to run a 235 on the front and a 225 on the rears, I know that I need to keep the outside diameter of the tires to within 2/32 of each other. ok let me know what I need to do, or if its a dumb idea.

2 different sizes = bad idea. Stick with the same size tire on all 4. You probably could get a 235/40-17 on the rim.

You can fit a 235 on a 17" rim very easily. The side wall height has been debated to death on here. If you do a search on it you will find a large number of threads on it. Im not trying to be a smart guy and tell you to use the search but I just don't want to give you misinformation. Im running 235/45/17 on my car. Mainly because the taller sidewall takes up a little fender gap. There are also a lot of potholes where I live so the tire eats them up a little better.

I would not run different size tires on a AWD car. Running the same size tires with different brands is still a no no. Just keep the same size all the way around to avoid any problems.

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference225/40-17 3.5in 12.0in 24.1in 75.7in 837 0.0%235/40-17 3.7in 12.2in 24.4in 76.7in 827 1.3%so using that calculator I get a .3 inch difference of total outside diameter will that be that bad on my transmission the 235s will go on the front and the 225s will be on the back

Any difference is bad. Stick with the same size. Why do you want 2 different sizes anyway?

reduce understeer. lower tire pressure in the rear gives more neutral handling, wouldn't that effectively change the overall outside diameter of the tires?so the wider tire in front helps with handling , considering we have such bad weight distribution front to rear. what is it 65/35?

Keep the same size all around. Use other methods to blance the car. Sway bars are a good place to start.

I know, I just like making things more complicated, plus I think that if done properly it can enhance the effects of other suspension modifications. obviously I don't want to cause any undue stress on my driveline.

Then don't do it, because it will cause undue stress on the drivetrain.

...and I have 235/40's on a 17x7.5" wheel and that is pushing it.....the autox d00000ds put whatever size they can squeeze on the wheel----but that is NOT the best idea, reagardless of what THEY think.

so the 235 is too wide? would a 225 be suitable with the same staggered setup only this way 225 on the fronts and 215s on the rear? with a 225/45 17 front and a 215/50 17 I get .2 inch difference

the 225 has a 4in sidewall 12.5 in radius 25 in diameter 78.5in circumf
the 215 has a 4.2 in sidewall 12.7in radius 25.5 in diameter 80 in circumf

ok so this is so freaking complicated it's not really worth my time, well I thought I had a good idea...

so 225/40 17 that seem like a good idea?

Why are you still trying to go with staggered sizes? Haven't you gotten the hint that it's a bad idea? DON'T DO IT. Stick with the same size all around.

You can do 235/45/17 ALL AROUND, yes. It's not a question of the tires being too wide, it's the fact that you want to run two different widths that's in question.

A 235 mm width is really too wide for the stock wheel which is only 7" wide. Should be at least 7.5" or preferably 8" wide.
