Question, anyone know the part number for the aux jack plate from the 07's? Is it the whole plate and ashtray place holder, or is it just a plate? I want to retrofit the plate in my 06 and feed my Pioneer deck's aux and USB connector through the plate for a clean look (I know some dremelling will be required for the USB). Thanks!

I would very much be interested also in how to get the aux cable (from head unit to the aux plate) out of the car or if it can?
Is the aux connection a standalone circuit with all connections terminated at each plug or does something split off somewhere in the harness? Reason I ask is a friend wants to install my 07 in his earlier Forester, but it's no use to him if he has no means to hook up the aux input. |

07 wrx tr head unit issue????? crazy!!! makes no sense to me!!!
Well i have had the car for 2 days now and last night i installed my clarion cd player. to make a long story short clarion has 2 constant and 1 switched wires from the back of the unit. I could not remember which wires went where since i did not have the manual. i wired up all the wires except those 3 to test them in the car. i made sure that the 2 hot wires coming out of the dash were not touching anything. I 1st plugged up the antena and as soon as it was in the fuse for the dome light blew. i carefully pulled the antena out and unhooked the wiring harness. i replaced the fuse and began my test again without the antenna plugged in. I found out which wires were constant and not with no issue. I then wired up everything nice and safely like all the other wires. plugged everything up including the antena... no blown fuses this time... the only problem is this - i get hardly any radio stations. Is there something on this car that i am missing.. this is my 1st subby but not my 1st radio install i have done many many in the past and know what i am doing. my other ? is why did it not blow the radio fuse? makes no sense what so ever to me.. please help me if you can. Thanks |

I've heard that there is a power antenna that must have 12V to it. There should be a power antenna lead coming off of the back of your deck.
t4nk indicated this on my deck install faq http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1261005 "i just skimmed the post.. but i didnt see anything about the "Power Antenna" wire having to be hooked up. On the subies, if you have the glass painted antenna, you have to provide 12v of power to, or u will get horrible reception. I just used my blue remote wire for this.." |

However, the aux box may be slightly different in different models — so there might be more than one part number. There's a picture of one from a 2007 WRX back in post #22 of that same thread. It's a complete box, not just a plate. |

I also mentioned that in posts 2 and 3 of the "Stock head unit" thread.

So I'm installing a carpc and I need to find the 12v switched line. From my research it runs .5amps when the key is turned.
Does anybody know which color/wire this is on the harness? I have an 06 impreza Yes I know i can find out moy rapido with a 12v test light and the keys to my car, but i'm super planning this out and would rather have at least some idea of which one it is. I'll be wireing it to a carnetix p1900 then to my mac mini and touch screen. |

Here's the pin-out for the radio connector, with wire colors in the Impreza/WRXThe pin-out is definitely the same for the 2006 (and 2007 and 2008). Some of the wire colors may have changed, but since you're going to have to pull your radio to get to the wire, you'll be able to look at the plug and see which wire goes to the pin you need. (mgetchis' post was originally in that other thread, but I asked the mods to move it over to this "questions" thread). |

Thank you!
The information on the head unit installation (especially the wiring/pinout diagram) was invaluable! We wouldn't have been able to install my aftermarket one with out it. The color defaults were especially helpful since the guy who had my '93 Impreza before me had really left a rat's nest behind him. he had clipped off and by passed most of the wiring harness. Thanks to the FAQ I now have a working radio that I don't have to reprogram everytime I turn off the car!

scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?p=29833#post29833 The DVD player replaces the original DIN pocket under the factory stereo. My DVD has also an additional AUX IN available from the backside, so you can wire it under the dash to the ash tray, cup holder if you are looking for some fixed solution (like ipod dock). |

From all the pieces of info I've seen.. The two plugs on the back of the head unit are the Aux input, and Sirius connection (I guess the Cenet bus). On the 07 Aux Harness (plug to cable to plug to plate).... From the Forester forum, one guy was able to remove the aux cable (radio to plate)... It comes out, but it's a funny looking thing in the forester.. not the simple short cable I've seen in here. There's a ground that splits off. I haven't tried it in mine yet. 07 radio in earlier Forester with sub-plug ???? A couple guys in the forester forum are wondering about trying to install an 07 radio (with aux, but without dedicated sub-out plug) in an earlier forester that has a plug for the sub. Can anyone help us out with the diagram for the 07 XT forester with the sub output? Is this one of those T-harness situations where the 6x9 is fed off the main speaker leads from the main output from the head unit? |

help...and yes i've tried searching.
I have an 05 wrx sedan and noticed it comes w/ a factory supplied amp. I don't have the sub and was wondering if the factory amp supplied needs to be by-passed prior to installing an aftermarket hu? thanks |

With the McIntosh system, the HU itself still has the same 14-pin connector, but the 4 speaker outputs there are dead (and the car's wires stop short before reaching the speakers). A separate umbilical connects to the Mc amp. It has the same style 14-pin connector which has the 4 speaker outputs plus a speaker-level subwoofer output. If that's what your car has, and you don't want to use the amp, then yes you'll need to bypass the amp. You'll just need a second 14-pin wiring adapter ("forward" harness) to connect to the speaker wires (the harness that was originally plugged into the amp). If you do want to use that amp (leaving it driving the car's speakers), you'll have to get the McIntosh umbilical cord, cut off the HU end and solder on four RCA plugs. Then plug that into line outputs on your new HU. Here's the pin-out (orientation is viewing the socket on the rear of the amp): Pinout of 13 pin din Amp Connector on McIntosh HUs (on SubaruOutback.org)If that's not what your car has, then can you post pictures of the front and back of your stock HU and this amp you're talking about? |

Well from the 05 install that I found that SVX also posted on, this pic shows an amp. I haven't attempted install yet because I haven't received the harness in the mail. See pic below

No, it's instructions that you only need to remove the screws indicate in blue, if you are replacing deck and installing an amp.
There is no amplifier outside of the headunit. |

would it be possible to get an old style subwoofer and a new style and plug them both in? so one ran off of the rear speakers and one ran off of the front?

I can't seem to find out if there is an Aux input for the base stereo with single CD player. Anyone know?

However, both the old- and new-style T-harnesses listen to the rear speakers. Some really old harnesses connected to the front speakers. I don't know which cars those were sold with. If you really want one sub on the fronts and one on the rears, the easiest way to do that would be to re-pin the speaker wires on one of the T-harnesses (swap fronts and rears). The radio will still send the front outputs to the front speakers and rear to rears, but that sub will now be listening to the front signals. I say "easiest," but extracting the pins (especially from the reverse plug) is a real bear. Some people might prefer to just snip the 4 speaker wires (rears — where they T off) and re-attach to the other 4 speaker wires (fronts). |
