OFFICIAL Road Dyno List
GOAL
To keep track of Subaru-only road dyno results of NASIOC members and to provide an alternative way of comparing power using logged parameters and Airboy's spreadsheet (available from HERE). This will give NASIOC members a much better idea of what mods they will need for a specific WHP, with the most accurate and consistant results, without having to work out what dynos read high or read low. Now all NASIOC members have a single list of member's cars and what mods, fuel types and transmissions they used to make the real world whp and tq numbers listed. REQUIREMENTS To try and ensure all results are as true and accurate as possible, all logs and vehicle details are to be posted within the "code" tags on NASIOC. Edit column headings in log and change to the following before posting in the "code" tags to ensure proper spacing: AP = Atmospheric Pressure LOAD = Engine Load RPM = Engine Speed IAT = Intake Air Temp MRP = Manifold Relative Pressure (direct) TOA = Throttle Opening Angle (%) VS = Vehicle Speed It would also be of benefit if ppl posted a brief description about mods performed and I will add lists for particular turbos and displacment. Please use the following format: VEHICLE DETAILS Car: Engine: Turbo: Turbo Intake: Intercooler: Filter/Intake: MAF size: Exhaust: Injectors: Fuel Pump: Log gear: Tyre Size: Delta Weight: FUEL TYPE (must be listed): (Delta Weight is the total weight of passengers and other non-standard things sitting in car ie. a tool box, tow bar, roof racks, baby seats, etc). Required tools and software:
Please only log:
Optional (but preferable to limit exclusion of suspect data):
NOTE: It is important to note that although ppl can post their own airboy dyno results, any results posted will not be included in the rankings. I will only include results calculated from the logs provided, so long as all requirements are met. LOGS EXCLUDED Any suspect results will be excluded until all logs can be varified and all log data is supplied (including optional parameters). SMOOTHING FACTOR The smoothing factor used to calculate the dyno plot will depend on how many data points the log includes and will be determined as follows: 3 = 0-30 data points 4 = 31-40 data points 5 = 41-50 data points 6 = 51-60 data points 7 = 61-70 data points 8 = 71-80 data points 9 = 81+ data points Note: If smoothing factor above is uded and a spike is present higher in rpm, the next highest smoothing factor will be used. ie. If smoothing factor of 5 produces a dyno plot that is smooth until 6000rpm and then there is a sharp spike/incline in the plot that is inconsistant, a smoothing factor of 6 will be used to smooth the slike. LOGGING/GEAR INFO
DEFAULTS If some of the information is not provided, the following defaults will be used:
HOW TO LOG
That's about it, then I will run the info in airboy's spreadsheet and post your results. QUESTIONS/FEEDBACK Q/F: How do you create the dyno plot from the road log? A: I use Airboy's spreadsheet (available from HERE) to load the log, and then I use the "accel" tab to create the dyno plot after entering all the required information. Q/F: good idea in theory, but adding the rankings will make people start fudging numbers. all you gotta do is change the weight or tire size a bit and things get crazy. A: This is why I have stated ppl are to post the logs, then I will run the numbers to keep things as fair and consistant as possible - it is important to note that although ppl can post their own airboy dyno results, any results posted will not be included in the rankings. I will only include results calculated from the logs provided, so long as all requirements are met. Sure ppl can then "fudge" numbers in their log, but with all the things they are required to log it will be pretty easy for most to spot those who change any of the numbers around. So as long as ppl follow the instructions in opening post, all results calculated will be more comparable then random dyno graph comparisons that ppl tend to make. Q/F: If I make changes to my tune, or add new mods, can I upload a new log? A: Please take into consideration the time required to create the plot, upload the images, edit the stats and then post a reply - so if there is no decent (as in at least 5whp) improvement, please resist posting multiple logs EXAMPLE OF REQUIRED LOG Code:

Sure ppl can then "fudge" numbers in their log, but with all the things they are required to log it will be pretty easy for most to spot those who change any of the numbers around So as long as ppl follow the instructions in opening post, all results calculated will be more comparable then random dyno graph comparisons that ppl tend to make. EDIT: I updated first post to highlight this. Last edited by wrxsti.l; 03-26-2009 at 01:21 AM. |

Should be easy to spot from the parameters they log

4th gear on 07/08/09 USDM STi is very tall (high top end speed). 3rd gear might be more appropriate, especially the 08+ STi, with their bigger tires.

What happens if people have a hydra or Motec or AEM? Can we participate with our logs from those standalones?

The only problem I have with 3rd gear logs on 6spd models is that the resulting dyno shape is not as nice Anyhoo, all good and updated. |

I think a good thing would be two require two logs from the same stretch of road, but in opposite directions. Average them together to minimze the uphill/downhill correction factor
Also, I dont think all that many parameters should be logged for the sake of resolution. I can understand that need for IAT, and Atmospheric Pressure but vehicle speed is unnecessary, and so is load and throttle. |

i was really hammered last night
This is a good idea....but we have so much data right now that we can pretty much make up dyno plots for td04's all the way to gt40's without actually needing data logs. What i was wanting to do for a long time is make a spreadsheet where you select your mods from pull down menus and it spits out a dyno sheet for you. Basically a sheet to help people pick a setup and watch how the power curve changes with cams, headwork, bigger turbos, intercoolers, etc. I think something like that would help a lot of people....but i have no idea how to make anything like that. I know there is a log thread that you started, but from what I can tell it is more focused on how the tunes looks in the log rather then actually creating a dyno plot.
This thread will allow anyone and everyone (who has an openport/logging cable and romraider logger) to go out and do a quick 3rd gear log and compare their results to all other NASIOC members. This will provide a much better average of power output available from specific setups and how each members setup compares to the next. Your idea for a spreadsheet detailing mods etc is a great idea, and this will be even more achievable with the logs gathered in this thread as they will be sp[ecifically for creating dyno plots All that is required is for NASIOC members to post the log (log explained in the OP and as per the example), that's it, I'll do the rest and start posting positions |

np, just pop up the log and some info as per the requirements and I'll take care of the dyno plot and enter your position - and it looks like you'll be #1 unless Ron gets his up soon :P

yea the only thing i dont have on my log is atomsphere pressure so i will have to go out and do a new log, depending if the rain calms down and the road dries up a little

The same is true for Intake Air Temp and VS. The VS is going to be calculated, so why use the ECU value which itself is a simple measurement from the VSS"? Just looking to reduce items to increase log speed, as that makes the data much more useful. (At least for tuning). Jeff |
