Default What grade oil do you all use?

20W-50 too much? What's the ideal? Also planning on switching to synthetic. Thanks.

Oil weight is mostly dictated by climate you'll be driving in, as colder or hotter like different weights. Irvine is pretty temperate, no special use needs; Subaru spec'ed oil weight should be just fine.

I'd say 10W30 for California. If you live anywhere that gets a little cold then use 5W30. I use 5W30 year round in Seattle.

Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic 5W-30 year round up here in WA. To me, 20W-50 is too thick, even for California.

I've been using Castrol GTX 10w-30, but I will be making a switch to Motul 300 V 5w-40.

Royal Purple 10W-30. Knocking when the engine's cold, beautiful when it's warm.

In Mobil's case, their heating oil distributors are often their local wholesalers for motor oil, too. I got the 0W40 (which Pep Boys/Kmart/Wal-mart don't carry) from the local heating oil guy. There's a finder on Mobil's web site.

Motul is much harder to find, and if you've ever been in touch with their U.S. office, you'll know why. They're a little... slow.
