Default What spark plugs do you all use?

I have a 2002 wrx and the factory plugs are NGK PFR6Gs and I was wondering what other plugs you all use and if you have any luck with them. I have NGK Irridiums in now and my tuner said he doesn't like to tune with them because he has bad luck with misfires. The stock plugs each are 10.00. Just wondering what other people use. I am running a vf39 with all supporting mods.

Me either, I have tuned my car several of times with my laptop and I haven't gotten any of misfires. My tuner is VERY popular so I followed his advice and took them out. I am going to go get some plugs today but was just wondering what people used

I use the stockers. I have tried the one step colder iridium and my car misfired like crazy.

You do know its not made out of copper right? and ALL ngk plugs have the same COPPER CORE in them, regardless if the are standard nickel, platinum, or iridium. It is more accurate to call them Nickel plugs.

Is the correct gap on my car (2002 wrx) .030? Thats what advance auto parts computer says and thats what the plugs are. My tuner said to gap them at .028 though

That difference is too small to really matter. But if you buy the PFR6G (factory plug for 2002 wrx), it is already gapped at .030. You don't need to re-gap. BTW, try to avoid gapping or even checking precious metal plugs (iridium, platinum) as you can easily damage the precious metal. A nickel plug, like BKR6ES or BKR6E, you can gap all you want.

i don't care what the plug is made out of--i'm not putting one in that hasn't had its gap checked.

if you're ****ing up your plugs and breaking electrodes while checking gap then you're a ham-fisted idiot who shouldn't be working on your car in the first place.

If you insist on checking it, just know that you need to be a a lot more careful than with a nickel plug. Use a pin or wire type gage. DO NOT use the "coin" wedge style or flat feeler gages. When using the pin type, gently slide it into the gap, rotating the pin if necessary. DO NOT FORCE IT. This is the type of tool you should use if you must check the gap: http://www.autozone.com/R,824580/sto...B7D32F9425419C

Happens a lot more often than you could imagine. Even "proffesionals" screw it up from time to time.

I have most indubitably made paperweights out of $$ sparkplugs

I even(usually) buy an extra plug or have an extra(or 2 ) around just in case.

some of the iridium plugs can be destroyed by knocking the tiny---think grain of salt size here....iridium pad off of the center electrode....and you dont even know you did it

+1 for the coppers. They get the job done and are much cheaper although you need to swap them out more often. I gap mine to 0.028
