OT: What Cell Phone cariers do you all use?
I saw the post in the private vendors section for some very good Nokia phones at some very good prices. I guess they only will work with Cell One or AT&T, maybe one other. Please chime in and let me know your experiences.
thanks //m

Verison. I've been with them (Used to be Bell Atlantic Mobile) for almost a year and a half. No complaints so far. Oh, I use my cell phone as my primary phone. It is a Motorola Startac 7868.
I'm on the NorthEast(New England, New York, New Jersey, etc..) Singlerate plan, which allows me 500 minutes a month with absolutely no roaming or longdistance charges. This means that as long as I make a call in the north east, I can call anywhere, (Canada included) and I'm not charged long distance. Every minute over 500 is 30 cents per. -T |

Verizon is really the only decent wireless carrier in the area. Ive had Verizon/Bell Atlantic for about 3 years, and being in the business, I wouldnt go elsewhere at this time. They wont give you the best rates, but your phone will actually work in most places. I know that cant be said for Sprint or OmniPoint. And AT&T's coverage is still a little skethcy, atleast north of Boston where I am.

I recently switched from Verizon to AT&T Wireless - their no-roaming/no-long distance plan was by far the cheapest. So far I've been pretty happy with it, although coverage sometimes isn't quite as robust as Verizon's is. It's a heck of a lot better than Spring PCS though - lots of my friends regret getting PCS here around Boston. The coverage drops out in the strangest places without warning.

I currently have verizon, but have had nothing but prioblems with them. after 2 months my phone just died, and it took over 2 month to reconcile the problems associated with billing/credits. also the customer service is much to be desired. I can say that I have had pretty decent reception in my area (Acton, 1/2 hour nw of boston on rt.2) I also seem to get disconnected without reason. To my knowledge, all the good phones that work on the Verizon system are flip-style phones, and if anyone is gonna break that, its me, so im stuck with their crappy audiovox option. I was looking into cell one or AT&T (my friends on sprint always get 'circut busy' alerts. just my 2¢

Sprint PCS for me. I've measured up the plans, and if you don't want a contract.. .they defenitely have the best plans. And not to sound like an ass, but they defenitely have the better models of each phone out there.

You will get more "All circuits busy" recordings than you can shake a Cusco strut bar at with Cell One.

I'm paying about $70 per month for my plan including insurance and taxes and all the other fun stuff. I think there are better plans now than when I started. For instance, I think it's possible to get 600 min per month for $70, versus my 500 minutes for the same type of plan.

I must admit the customer service for Verison isn't that great...Unless you go to a store, then it's a little better.
As for the phones breaking: I have phone insurance with my plan(An extra $3 a month) and it's definitely worth it. Just last week my Startac crapped the bed. The next day(Friday) I had a new phone in hand, minus the $35 deductible. Not bad at all, considering the price of the phone. (I actually upgraded to the latest and greatest for only $75.) The moral of that story is to buy the insurance. I got a new phone no questions asked. -T |

I currently have Sprint PCS. I'm about to drop them because the plan I am paying $50, they are offering new clients for only $30. ANd they won't give it to me. Talk about being loyal to your customers.
Hey TT, How much are you paying for your plan? I also use my phone as my primary. I like the idea of singlerate, since I'm in the boonies a lot and would rather not pay for roaming. Can you guys also post what your plan costs and minutes provided? -Pete |
