A water dam will not show how it works. There is nothing being taken out of the water going through a dam, the water is just getting redirected. In the bus scenario, the bus is the air and the children are the oil droplets. The children(oil droplets) are removed from the bus(air) when the bus(air) has to take wicked turns.

Default Re: Grimmspeed AOS review

Installed mine today on a 2007 STi and it was pretty smooth. Had to make a few modifications to the installation instructions which I will share here:

1) I had to bend the oil dipstick out of the way as it would not clear the AOS in the stock location. Grab it and pull it toward the front of the car until it will clear.

2) The supplied hose is too small to fit over the nipple at the PCV. I adapted from the supplied hose to a bit larger piece using the same kind of adapter that they supplied.

3) The supplied cap for the nipple at the PCV entrance to the intake tube is too long. I trimmed it about 1/2".

4) It's much easier to do the job with the intercooler off so while it's off fill it about 1/4 full of unleaded gasoline and slosh it about to clean off the oily residue. Drain well and use all the normal precautions you would with gasoline.

5) Fitting the center cap of the AOS is a bit tricky with the hoses attached. Be careful not to cross thread.

Even though I've seen video of the Grimmspeed guys' driving abilities, I'd never let them drive my kids schoolbus

Now imagine the bus is traveling at 80mph through this tunnel and it has amazing race suspension and all of the sudden the bus has to make a 90 degree turn(lets imagine it takes the turn perfectly)...BAM, many of the floating oil droplets fly out of the windows and hit the inside of the tunnel wall. Then in a very short amount of time the bus takes another 90 degree turn and more oil droplets come flying out of the bus and hit the walls of the tunnel. Repeat these 90 degree turns 5-7 times(this is how many 90 degree turns our AOS has).

As you can see, it will be very hard for any remaining oil droplets, or children, to stay in the bus.

Does the school bus example make sense?
that was awesome! me and a few others i see are still waiting pictures on 08+ wrx's and i think a guy said LGT. they just dont look as easy as the sti's people are giving pics for.

that is one hell of an example. hahaha. so many different/strange images that went through my head as I was reading this (Bus racing through a tunnel handling like a mofo, kids inside that turn into oil droplets and getting smashed into the tunnel walls). that's great. makes sense though, I think. hahah

I am already using a Crawford AOS...can you comment about using this setup *after* a non-PCV'd AOS for a second defense?

I am considering running the outlet of the can to the inlet of the GS-AOS, capping the second GS-AOS inlet then running the G-AOS outlet to intake. Thoughts?

It'd be nice if the mods cleaned up the off-topic posts in this thread but here is a pic of it installed on my '08. Thankfully, the '08's have much greater separation between the filler neck and dipstick. I'll be monitoring the oil and any condensation/sludge over the next couple months. It's pretty damn cold here still (-6C right now), so it should provide a nice test bed.

I wouldn't bother running the two together. Using both will take away the benefits of using ours alone.

Thank you for the reply! I'll continue using my well-functioning Crawford Air/Oil Separator only and will spend elsewhere.

Just install the aos today, have one slight problem. The hose supplied seemed to small for the pcv port, I was only able to get about half inch of the hose onto the pcb port.
Were you guys able to get the hose on all the way or how did do this?

Thanks

We haven't had any issues as of yet. Was the hose too short or was the ID not large enough? This was on your 06 sti?

Yea...the hose itself is beefy. Too beefy actually for the pcv connection. The ID of the hose is too small. I had to strecth the hose and kind of get it in because it was too late for to find another hose.

I decided to take a look at the intake hose on the GS AOS after 1000-1200km. Snapped a few pics:

The intake hose looks clean and dry for the most part. I did notice slight dampness near the end of the stock hose that goes from the intake tract nipple to the plastic coupler. This might have been there from before when the car didn't have an air/oil separator or it might just be water.

The ID of the hose that connects to the top of the PCV tee is too small. I basically took needlenose pliers, put them in the hose and opened them to stretch the hose as much as I could. After doing this, I put a tiny bit of oil on the PCV tee and forced the hose onto it. Took quite a bit of effort but it's on fully, though probably never coming off.

Looks great! I see that you in are Canada too so i'm assuming you have been using it in very cold temperatures?

Yep. We had a few -12C (ambient) days and the car was driven on those days, so yeah, it definitely seems to be working.
