Sorry for the bad luck dude, cheers to a quick fix. Overheating stuff sucks, that's when you cause more issues...

I was 2 corners away from pit lane when I slipped on my own coolant and almost span out so I was able to get off the track quickly. Needed full lock to correct the oversteer. If it wasn't for the misfiring I would been going much faster and probably wouldn't have been able to save it.
The turn is nicknamed the million dollar corner because a million dollars worth of cars crash there every year. |

It looks like u can even see the camera get a tad wet just as u start to loose control from the coolant.
Wish u good luck man and maybe its just a simple as a bad hg vs a sleeve dropping on u. |

Really? For me it's the opposite. With all these issues I wouldn't even go as far as a built engine and just sell the car for a C6Z.

when i broke 3rd gear i thought long and hard about selling it for a new 5.0 mustang or a MKIV supra, but i just couldnt do it. my GF loves my car as much as i do and i need somehting with 4 doors that is safe. and this is it in every way.
also 2 questions for you i might have missed. did the long rod motor, even though its a 2.5 still hurt spool like the 2.3's do? and which short shifter do you have? the super expensive "competition" group n one or just the regular "sti" one? Last edited by WhatTurboLag?; 08-11-2012 at 08:19 PM. |

It's the group N shifter. I think it's the best shifter you could ever buy! Smooth in every gear, excellent engagement, very little play. Definitely super solid. Pair it with some group n engine mounts and group n transmission mount, even launching in 1st with your hand off the shifter it barely moves left and right. |

Update to the motor, found out the bottom rad hose was seeping a bit when I went high rpm. Changed out the stock spring clamp for a worm gear clamp and seems to have solved all my coolant loss problems...
However, I never had an issue before... must be having some higher coolant pressure during boost/high rpm? Possibly because I have a sleeved block? More restriction in flow? The cometic head gaskets did also seem to have smaller coolant passages if I remember correctly. I drove the car pretty hard (trying not to go to jail - 25psi in all gears, high rpm) up to an evening class (on top of a mountain) and I promptly popped the hood and looked at the overflow. It was near the top (aps overflow tank) but didn't overflow. It did bubble every now and then? No coolant loss as far as I can tell anymore. I think I'm going to have to find somewhere to stress out the car more. Or what I'm thinking is installing a coolant pressure sensor. Kind of like what some pro level cars or wrc cars use. At least if I know coolant pressure spikes during some high boost/rpm pulls, I have a head gasket issue. It's easy to install and the sensor is relatively cheap... also could come in handy? What do you guys think? Where should I put it? Upper rad hose? Lower rad hose? Tap the upper coolant crossover pipe? |

Tapping the coolant crossover pipe just makes it a pain to get at if you need to. I'd do the upper rad hose. It would be interesting to see if pressure goes up linearly with rpm and gets above 1bar at 8000rpm.

Try Evans coolant. I know a few guys running it on sleeved blocks with great success. That's what i'm going to use in mine when she fires up...

I have been focusing mainly on handling/suspension upgrades for my 06. Would you recommend working on cams and pistons engine wise or what would you recommend. I am about to buy a new radiator and a Motul oil cooler.

I haven't looked at what you were running but I guess it was more of a heads up statement since I contacted Evans about this before getting my sleeves done.
