05 LGT wagon sway bar and end link questions
The stock end links on my 05 LGT wagon are broken. I'm going to buy White Line end links and a front sway bar. There are 3 end link choices and I don't know which to buy. They have a heavy-duty adjustable steel ball, a bushed alloy, and a spherical rod end type of end link. I'm guessing the steel ball and spherical rod end are more adjustable than the bushed alloy. I will eventually be upgrading the entire suspension, but for now I will only have the end links and sway bar aftermarket. I'm pretty much relying on you guys to tell me which one of these end links is my best choice so I can go ahead and buy a set.
As far as the sway bar goes, I've heard 3 things. My car suffers from understeer when I'm pushing hard through corners. Some people say to solve understeer, replace the rear sway bar only. Other people tell me that just replacing the front sway bar and end links will make the car handle night and day better. The third party says to only replace the front and leave the rear stock, because replacing the rear sway bar will actually overcorrect the problem and make my car oversteer badly. Any light on this subject, especially first-hand experience, would be greatly appreciated. - travis

G'day jahousafat,
Just thought I'd throw in a couple of point to consider that might help you choose any link type. Its mainly an issue of compliance. A bushed link will have some compliance which means the swaybar will not work as hard or achieve its full anti-roll potential. However, compliant or bushed links will have lower NVH (or noise, vibration or harshness) than a solid or non-compliant link so will be quieter on average. Non compliant links take many forms including metal on metal rod ends (sphericals) but also now include hybrid ball end type that use a nylon cage to house the steel ball, sort of like the stock Subaru links but more heavy duty. For ultimate performance and zero compliance then spherical are the choice and are most often used on race cars but at a cost. The next point is to consider what your replacing. That is, stock non-compliant links should not be replaced with bushed compliant type unless you accept that you'll lose some swaybar rate in the bushing. Not a lot, but it is a factor. Adjustability is a real plus for fine tuning of your set up and removing pre-load in the swaybar ends that make the bar work harder in one direction compared with another. This is a good feature for a serious setup but often comes at a cost. So for your Legacy 05 GT application, the choices would be KLC32 - bushed alloy poly compliant but non-adjustable KLC139 - ball end nylon cage non-compliant but adjustable KLC39 - spherical bearing steel non-compliant but adjustable Hope that helps. go with the KLC32. i have those on my car.
for suspension... ksport gt pro coilovers, whiteline adjustable rear lateral links, kartboy rear end links, whiteline 20mm adjustable rear swaybar, whiteline front end links, superpro steering rack bushings, whiteline anti-lift kit comfort, and cusco front strut bar. the end links r all poly bushes. the best investment was the anti-lift kit. better front end grip, better turn-in, and mid turn correction. i noticed this even with the coilovers on. |
