It totally depends on the dealer, not SOA. There are plenty of dealers who've stepped up and replaced shortblocks in cars with DP's and tunes, and there are plenty who haven't, regardless of claim acceptance by SOA. Matt (owner) was crystal clear with me: "as long as there's no DP on the car, we will fix it, period." BTW, Matt drives a 450whp GT35R 2009 STi, so he knows a little about "mods." Lol
Again, the "counter" tells them nothing. If the factory tune resides in the ECU, they're going to have to come up with a different reason for denial, if that's where they're headed. The SOA/Dealer catch-all classic is "abuse." Sorry for the threadjack.

No problem, but this tangent needed to be addressed.
Tim sure is a nice guy, and Surgeline is a clean shop too, huh? FWIW, I'll be very interested to see what the addition of a high flow catted downpipe does once tuned. I have 2 of these 2011's, and I've heard different things - "on the '11, you don't need a DP...you DO need a DP, etc, etc." It'll be great to see them overlayed, at the same boost levels. |

When the 11s came out I recall tuners saying the stock DP flowed fine, furthermore, they asserted that aftermarket DPs on the market at the time were causing boost creep.

Let's see what magic Tim Bailey does. That'll be proof enough for me.

I'm glad this thread was bumped even for thread jacking reasons. I go in for a protune (at surgeline) next week and it was very refreshing to see some sweet numbers put down by another 11.

So when are the DP and new tune going to happen, KWIL? My hunch is you won't see much whp increase, but you should get another 25 ft/lbs or so, with even more increase from 2.5K to 3.5K, and not as much fall-off on top. You got a boatload of whp on that stock tune at only 16 psi, I'm impressed.

I prioritized my audio install first so when I put an exhaust on I'll still be able to hear the radio. Also, a little bit more mileage base with no DP warranty worries was good, too. Surgeline is top notch and since we live in the NW, IMO Tim Bailey is an obvious choice. I actually asked for a conservative, safe tune and still got decent numbers--I suspect you'll be equally happy, looking forward to seeing your results. |

Did everyone miss this post? I'm still baffled by the numbers posted below, something doesn't add up here.

When they pro tune your car they push it to its thresholds to help them negate ultimately the safe tune point and understand your range. Those tuner maps aren't lying they are showing the top range they acheived on the dyno. What it does show is that I should be able to run the 18psi map all the time after my Stage 2 tune since it will be within a safer range. |

Just looks like the data from one car (from the same day) got submitted into the dyno database under the wrong name (another 2011 wrx). The process is manual so human error is the most likely cause.

KWIL, most of the guys I know with 2011 WRXs who've been tuned by Tim end up with a 16-17.5 psi DD map, even with a DP. I think the issue he's concerned about is the stock I/C - the stocker is a 2 piece clamshell, the end tanks are clip fastened, and the unit can blow apart really, really easy. Put a solid TMIC on it and you could push 19-20 psi with no problem whatsoever with the right tune and fuel.
You're right, however, about his methodology. Thye push to see how far the motor can go safely, then back it down and fine tune for the final map(s). The last tune I got on my '04 with meth got up to 421whp, and we ended up at 405 - the timng was backed off touch and the AFR was bumped a touch for safety, but the boost remained at 25 psi. Out on the road, I could feel no difference whatsoever. |

Ok, I have read this entire thread.
Couple things I came up with and I have questions about. First is the warranty issue. There are two important statements about this and I know it depends on the dealer: If you re-flash with a non-stock map and have a stock downpipe the dealer shouldn't deny the warranty. There is no counter on the ECU that keeps track of how many times the ECU was flashed. You can re-flash back to stock and the and disconnect the battery and the dealer should never know that you ever flashed the ECU. Are these two statements correct? I have a 2005 LGT with an AVO TMIC on it. This should fit on my new 2011 WRX and solve the stock TMIC end tank issue ...Is that correct? I have an SPT exhaust from the factory on my 2011 WRX. If I put a high flow catted downpipe on it can I flash to a stage two map? In other words is this considered stage two for a WRX? If I put an aftermarket downpipe on it then the dealer may void the warranty, Correct? If I put the AVO TMIC on and a highflow down pipe, what kind of boost can I run safely and what kind of HP and torque numbers should I see with a pro tune? Most importantly will this void the warranty? I know this is off subject but the dealer told me that the 2011 WRXs come with synthetic oil? Is this true? Do I need to continue to use synthetic? Thanks and have a great day! |

This a terrible thread jack, turboman38. In the future it would behoove you to make your own thread asking your own questions.
Quote:
2) Correct. 3) According to this, yes. http://www.avoturboworld.com/avoshop...late-p-32.html 4) Yes. I have this setup using a Cobb OST map. 5) Depends. Do yourself a favor and read up on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. They can only deny your warranty if that part caused a failure. 6) If it's not an OTS map then you must find a local tuner and ask them about numbers since they will be doing the tune. If you are adding those mods but still worrying about warranty you're doing it wrong. 7) Yes they come from factory with synthetic, the dealer will put synthetic in it, and you should keep synthetic in it. Extra credit: Read more. All the above answers are on this forums. U just gotta search. |

KWIL, I noticed that you plan to get a cobb dp and spt exhaust. I would recomment you go wit ha 3" option, such as invidia catted dp and a 3inch exhaust. The Cobb DP tapers to 2.5" at the end and the SPT exhaust is an overpriced POS and its also 2.5".
And.. the dealer can tell that the ecu has been changed back to stock. |
