I wonder if the brz seats fit in our cars. They are really quite comfortable and supportive feeling. They feel very firm too.

Its the backseat that would be the problem. Although our rear seat looks an awful lot like the previous gen. If they would fit, say hello alcantara.

I don't care if they match. I plan to drive the wheels off this car

The BRZ seats do look nice and I don't particularly care if they match the rear. I find our seats comfortable I just want something that contours the body and hugs you a little more when you are tossing it around through the corners.

It will be hard finding something that won't break the bank though...

Default First Post

Hello - just picked up my 2013 sedan, 5MT, black on black with some of the dealer add ons. Got it tinted and ordered some blizzaks to date.

Been lurking here since ordering the car (mid-Jan) to try and do some learnin. Great stuff I must say - lots of experience and knowledge here from what I have seen.

Still breaking the car in but really liking it so far. Sure even a little more power would be nice, but it serves its purpose very well. Friggin love the AWD (first time Sub owner, long time wanter). Had ton of snow where I am last week and the car held its own incredibly, despite still having the OEM Yokos on it which are horrendus in snow/ice. Could easily tell when the tires were doing all they could, which isnt much, and how the AWD picked up the slack.

Planning to add the RSB and maybe do a couple other susp mods and hope that somebody somewhere figures out a way to give the car a little more go without a complete overhaul. Sounds like we could be waiting a while though.

Could talk about the car for a while but this post seems long and I do have an actual question:

Have obvious wind noise/whistling coming from my side mirror once I get up to highway speeds. Insanely annoyong. I have searched the forums through and through and while its mentioned i cant find an easy fix. Anyone have the same issue/any ideas how to fix??

Thanks. Sorry for the long post.

Anyone thinking of swapping seats should make sure the aibags in the replacement seats work exactly the same. Otherwise you're really opening up a can of worms because of the SRS.
How much would BRZ seats cost? Seat parts on Imprezas are on backorder always, I couldnt imagine what it would take to get them. A set from a junkyard would possibly be ok, if the airbags aren't deployed.
But with the srs sensors and airbags in the seats,I'd think swapping them would be a big liability.
I want so badly to swap seats, but I cant see any feasable way.

I have this whistling too at highway speeds. Sounds like a very slight gap in the weatherstripping.

Hah! At highway speeds, I can hold my hand by interior door handle with the windows up and feel a very definite draft. They definitely arent sealed up as well as other cars I've owned.
I had a couple Jettas that were hard to close with the windows up because they were sealed so tight.
It is a loud and rattly car. No big deal, but it is.

One of my very first comments on the car was that there was an unusually high amount of wind noise at highway speeds. After 14++ months of ownership, I hardly notice that anymore. Theres a symphony of squeaks and rattles battling the newgrass blaring from the stereo drowning out any wind noise!

I have the whistling too. I hate the mirrors on this car. They look stupid, they're huge enough so I get blinded everynight driving from cars behind me, and I think they are mounted too far back. I have to turn my head too much to see out of them. Poor design and on top of it, the monstrous things are loud as heck at highway speeds.

Only car that ever looked good with mirrors growing out of the door was the vw corrado. That was 1993. I dont get the new fad for japanese cars to have these stupid mirrors.

Lol...yes the radio has the amazing ability to fix all unwanted noises. Although this whistling can even go beyond that sometimes!

Thanks to you and the other responses.

Actually taking it in to the dealer this week to hassle them about it. Thought it was a window seal at first but once I rolled the window down it was easy to tell it was the mirror, loud enough to be heard inside. Dealer may be over kill but just bought the thing and would like them to try and deal with it before I go all MacGyver.

Will post any useful info from my experience at the dealer. Fingers crossed.

I don't really find the car rattly or anything, but I've only owned it for a few months.. The wind noise on the other hand..

If your side mirrors are adjusted so you see cars directly behind you on normal two lane roads they are misadjusted. The rear view mirror mounted in the car is for that.

Move the side mirrors out so that you can see a car that is passing your car in the mirror, and then in your peripheral vision just as it becomes no longer visible in the mirror...

This may not be your issue (if you are on a multi-lane highway see below), but for years I drove with my side mirrors in the wrong place, until I learned better, and did the correction. Now it is much safer to drive on the multi-lane highways, because there are no blind spots! If you are on a multi-lane highway, headlights from behind in the side mirrors can be bothersome, but for a regular road, it should not be an issue at all.

I've been in cars that did not allow the mirrors to be moved far enough out to the side to cover the blind spots (I keep the seat all the way back), but that is not an issue in the Impreza, I think the mirrors are great and offer excellent coverage, so for me function trumps style (though I don't think they look bad either).

FYI: you can see the exact window design on the impreza on a kia rio.
i bet if you had one you would say how lovely the design was considering the hyundai kia love fest everyone seems to have these days, bottom line lots of cars are gonna be sporting this design so deal with it. You should play whistle by Flo Rida and enjoy the sounds

Calgary - yourself? EDIT: nm - now see the YYC tag in your info

I was out in banff last wknd, drove home in the snow storm on sunday. I was worried about the OEM tires considering the amount of snow, ice, wind etc but the AWD held its own in a big way.

Even took hwy 1A (lots of curves, thinner shoulders) part of the way to avoid a 14 car pile up just outside the city - hwy was backed up for ~20K .

Again, no problem for this car in the conditions, even with the yokos.

Also Calgary - I bought my black hatch '12 5 speed from Centaur, and the sales and finance guys were nice, but the service department doesn't seem like anything special. They seem grumpy always and looked at me like I was the dumbest guy EVER after wanting to check the part # on the oil filters they had in stock to get the Roki's instead of the Honeywell's. I'm curious if Subaru Calgary is any better. Funny thing about the Roki's actually, in Canada they haven't come across the Honeywell filters yet for the FB20 block, still all Roki (according to the sarcastic parts guy playing bejeweled on his iphone).

I did the exact same thing you did - went through a couple storms on the yokos and was really surprised with how bad they were, but I put Blizzaks on after 10,000km or so and they've been amazing in comparison.

Personally, I find the yokos to be quite squirrelly on icy conditions. That's to be expected, though, considering they're not winter tires. I'm very likely going to purchase a set of dedicated winter tires for next winter (very likely meaning > 90%... the only thing that might stop me is finances, since I might be moving before the end of the year, and each move I've had to undertake has been a drain on my cash).

Right on - i went through Subaru Calgary strictly based on the price they were able to give me. lol at the comments about the Centuar service dept. Definetely not OVERLY impressed with SubCgy so far but it is what it is. Generally speaking I hear centaur is better to deal with on all fronts, which has me a little worried. First experience with SubCgy Service coming up so will keep you posted.

And cant wait to get the blizzaks on. Will be pulling for some snow once that happens haha. Wasnt planning to get tires until next winter considering its already mid-march but after putting the tires to the test last wknd i wanted to make sure i at least have some winters if necessary (for the annual April snow dump). Did you just swap out the tires on the OEM wheel or get another set? I bought some hubcentric steelies from costco, hoping they turn out. (im sure this topic belongs in the wheel/tire thread, just curious)

Yep I put the Blizzak WS70's on to my stock 17x7 sport wheels. I went with a 225/45r17 which has absolutely zero rubbing or clearance issues and is still within 0.something percent of the original stock wheel and tire height. Summer wheels and rubber to be coming when the snow leaves. Which could be tomorrow or June I suppose.

Costco has some pretty solid deals from what I hear. And the Costco in Deerfoot Meadows has the ultra cheap liquor store, what a candy land that place felt like the first time I was in there.

Aah nice, good call. Needless to say i went with the ws70s as well, smaller tire tho. Ideally would run the oems as winter wheels and buys new summers but trying to hold out on dropping $ on nice wheels as long as i can to make myself feel financially responsible lol. See how that goes.

Dealt with costco for tires (not wheels until now) in the past and have no complaints. And, well, dont get me started on the pure awesomeness of costco liquor stores.

Cheers
