I ordered it on subaruparts.com , Will most likely take a week or more. I dont want to sit around for a week, is there anywhere i can go that has one ? most dealerships wont junkyard last resort i went to an electric store and they didnt have any that matched the pins. its subaru part #25229aa01 Jideco 12v main relay. How do you know the relay itself is NG? I've never heard of one going bad. Have you checked for voltage at the coil, checked fuses etc.?

Subaru Outback Main Relay
On the subject of changing the main relay, my bypass air control valve remains energised when you turn the key off...Remove the ground from the battery, it de-energises, hook it back up and the valve remains de-energised. Turn the key back on and it does the same thing again. I see on the schematic that the "Main Relay" is supplying this power. I did a thorough test of what I think is the "Main Relay", but I may be looking at the wrong thing, and it checks out good. Is this relay kinda above the passenger's right foot? Blue or Yellow? About 1.25" square?

There may be a problem with the alternator causing that to happen. Try disconnecting the small wires to the alternator and see if the buzzing quits. If it does then the alternator needs to be replaced. |

About my Main Relay Problem....
My original post goes like this...
"On the subject of changing the main relay, my bypass air control valve remains energised when you turn the key off...Remove the ground from the battery, it de-energises, hook it back up and the valve remains de-energised. Turn the key back on and it does the same thing again." These sensors remain energized for two minutes and 30 seconds AFTER the key is turned off, i guess so they are up and running if the engine quits and the car needs to be ready for a re-start in a hurry. I did alot of head scratching over this. |

Some things go into a sleep mode when the ignition is turned off. If you still are having a problem with no power to the ECU coming from the main relay and the relay is working along with suppling power on the proper connections then there is a wire connection problem to the ECU.

The relay can be tested easily enough. Apply 12VDC to the coil. When the coil activates the 2 normally open contacts close. So ohming a contact with no power to the coil yields infinite ohms. After powering the relay coil the two contact points should be a dead short or close to 0 ohms each.
Relays fail all the time in my line of work. Internally the coil plunger closes the contacts mechanically and they do wear out (they also have springs). Sometimes a normally open contact will stay permanently closed due to arc welding from current over time. |
