Post RS' reliable?

Hey, I'm going to be buying a new car next summer and want to pick up the new turbo impreza. Well, if it's stickered around $25k I will...

Anyways, I have some questions about the current RS. I do alot of mileage, like 25k+ a year and I need something I won't constantly be taking into the shop. How reliable are they? How many warranty issues have you had with the car? Has the dealer been helpful while the car was in the warranty? How easy are they to work on? Parts availibility good?

How has the body/interior help up with time and mileage?

Anything else anyone could add would be great!

99 Impreza RS with 47,000 miles, and 14 autocrosses. Only issue to date is a slightly leaking exhaust manifold gasket on the left cylinder bank. Otherwise she has been flawless.

Cool

Hey Prezios...I didn't realize your OBS looks so much like mine! How cool. My spoiler is black though and my wheels are aftermarket (check out my pics in the members section). But, very nice OBS!

Anyways, my OBS is a '98 with 54,000 miles on it and the only thing I have replaced so far is front brakes. The only other thing that annoys me is the inner taillight covers keep falling off.

My OBS too just turned 1 year old. No probs at all! Considering what I do to this car....gravel runs, snow slides.... and the mods I've done....yet this lil Boxer 4 continues to growl happily.
Well there was one time I had to bring back to the dealer and that was when I messed up my TPS which was my own dang fault.

Kalins1, Thanks I am glad you like her. I saw your OBS in the Member section and boy we could be twins. I do think your Suby is smaller than mine though! He He He! You do need some bigger pics. Does look nice from what I can see.

Alls well with mine now, I think..

Make sure though that you look over EVERY INCH OF THE CAR when you get it. Apparently there was also some front end damage to my car plus some interior damage since the interior trim panels were not attached properly.

I had the car in the shop once. They fixed the bumper skin by replacing the old one, but the paint is peeling off in the "intake area" below and behind the license plate!!! The auto-body place they sent the skin to get painted apparently didn't do too great of a job. (They don't pre-paint the bumperskins ????!!!!) I used some black trim stickers and fixed it since the black stickers cover the torn areas. I might have to take it back again. I might use the Cali lemon law if I have to bring it back for these piddly little issues..

My only issues are with the exterior and interior. The drivetrain has performed flawlessly and smoothly.

MY99 for a little over a year and I'm at a bit over 27,000 miles.

Issues:
leaking rear diff - fixed under warrenty.
mysterious creaking noise from the rear.
sunroof creaking.

Attracts girls like you wouldn't believe
Attracts cops like you wouldn't believe

Far too much fun to drive.

Hey Doc...

Sometimes I auto-x At Otis AFB. C'mon out and say Hi.

Check out the New England Chapter of the I-Club from the main menu, introduce yourself.

The only warranty stuff done to my car was the tranny clutch problem (shuddering clutch) all replaced under warranty. Headliner rattle and a gas fueling problem are being investigated and soon to be fixed.

Other than that, it's been a great car for me.

As with any new model, be prepared for there to be bugs. The RS in '99 was the 2nd year and many changes to the car were made from the previous year (the engine for one) it was almost like a new model.

As with the turbo when it gets here, be prepared that there may be problems, but just cross your fingers and hope there aren't.

Just find a dealer that has an excellent service department and the right attitude when it comes to fixing things. (IE: not a grumpy attitude, etc.)

When you go to talk to the sales people, have a talk to the service dept too. That's where alot of $$ is made for the dealership, selling the car is a small part, the service afterwards is key.

Got a '95 Impreza 2.2 LS. 120K miles with no major problems... Only problem I have is that the gas gauge is broken. (Doesn't work anymore.) It quit at about 90K mlies (I haven't gotten around to getting it fixed yet... I just use the Trip-Od to see if I need gas; that is of course, if I remember to reset it between fill-up!) The gas gauge has been the only thing which has worn out in 120K miles! (Not including brakes, tires, filters and fluids, of course..) I say that's pretty damn good! Subie's are SOLID!

i've got a Nissan hardbody...very very very reliable. =P i hear Subaru's are ranked 5th most reliable marque. Of all Subarus sold from 1980, 80%+ are still on the road. I forget where i picked up that statistic.

My '00 RS is 4 1/2 month old with 7000 miles on it. Everything is running like the day it was delivered. Check the paint carefully when you pick up the car, my car has sub-standard quanlity paint job on the bumper. And the paint chips easily.

I go about 20-25K per year, just about to turn 50K in my MY98 RS...

Only mechanical problem has been a wheel bearing that went out right after the 3/36 warranty - but that is par for the course for this car.

The mechanical reliabilty is quite good, but there are the issues of material quality (cosmetics). My seats are not wearing that well, there are about a zillion dings and paint chips, and the platic opf the interior has gotten stickier and stickier (yeah, I have used Armor All-like cleaners/protectors).

Don't get me wrong, I love my Scooby, but the Toyotas that I have owned (5 in all) have stood the test of time better in regards the cosmetic things.

Soon (after my Legacy rear seats arrive) I am sticking leather into the thing and getting some new carpet, I think that this will helop quite a bit...

Go Scooby!
