Default SLC looking into bidding for 2022 Olympics

The 2002 Olympics was a success, SLC was one of the few winter venues to actually make a profit. With the announcement of a possible bid for the 2022 Olympics, SLC is setting up a committee to look at the logistics of hosting again.

http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=960...22-olympic-bid

Other cities in North America looking into bidding includes Denver and Tahoe.

Do you think SLC should host it again?

What do you remember about the 2002 Olympics?

Sweet! That'd be sick if they came here again. But at the same time it was the Olympics that led to an explosion in stupid people moving to Utah, causing this place to be way more crowded than it used to be.

I was serving my mission during the 2002 olympics, so I only remember a few snippets that I caught while I was in peoples houses. It looked like fun and made me want to be home.

SLC spent around $1.8 billion and profited $101 million, we already have the infrastructure to support it in place. I could see SLC hosting it for less than $1 billion and seeing over $200 million in profit.

I would like to see it come back, it was a great time. It was sweet how they blocked of main street and it was a huge party for 2 weeks.

Lake Placid had hosted twice why can't SLC.

It would be cool for SLC to host it again. It would be even more profitable than the 02 Olympics. But i don't think they'll get the bid again.

While I think it would be cool, I think it's too soon.

I'm all for it, the last Olympics were a blast, what I remember of them. I'll obviously behave differently now and in 8 years, but I think this would be a great and cheap experience for my daughter, if we still live here.

I'd love to see that money pumped into our local economy. I doubt it would take another 1.8 billion whatever if much of the infrastructure is in place and functioning.

Right...... it was the Olympics that caused the masses to move here. Nothing to do with Corporations leaving California to increase profits by saving money on land, utilities, taxes and incentives by the government.

^^ Maybe not the sole reason but It sure contributed. It gave Utah a lot of exposure and helped sway people's opinion of the state. I work with people (who aren't LDS) that say the Olympics made SLC seem nice and made them more open to relocating. And when they finally got the chance, they seized on it.

I remember people too scared to go ski thinking the slopes would be too crowded. Watching the trafic go by and no business. I just hope this time they would show the uncrowded slopes and then people would spend $$ in my store.
