if you put a BOV on your car, should you bring your car in for a tune?

Good to know about the surge, I thought it was damaging too.

Now, why is it that I can go from a perfectly running car, to this, by simply disconnecting the recirc hose? I would understand it running poorly after a few vents to atmosphere, but immediately after starting? I don't even think the ECU can 'learn' that quickly.

Other than the idling problem, it popped a few flames and would be extemely shaky starting out in 1st and shifting into 2nd. It is not shaky for the most part with the BPV connected.

Reconnected the BPV and car instantly runs 100% better.

For anyone reading this now; the stock BPV is slightly open in idle vacuum, so if the end is open to atmosphere, it is pulling in unmetered, unfiltered air that the ecu is trying to adjust for, but can't (wavering idle). After a shift, the blow-off creates the reverse condition; metered air never reaches the engine. This accounts for flames from unburned fuel.

Immediately after starting, you're getting unmetered air that causes lean conditions and misfires.

Necrothread!

This may or may be related to this thread but I recently installed the Perrin SR intake and immediately noticed a sucking of air and when I shifted the release sound which I can't really describe without sounding stupid by typing it but I will, phissssh and I noticed that I can hear it when I accelerate after entering 5th gear and I let off the pedal to release the air. Is it safe to assume that sound is just the intake? Car is stock with the only mod being the intake.

Now as far as I can tell from what I've read here, there are bad and good BOVs and it is not a good mod unless you go bigger turbo or you just like the sound but it is also not a bad mod because you like the sound but ultimately is a personal preference thing.

I'm super new to Subarus and modification and I rely on the expertise and experiences of all the individuals on here but I must say that the unnecessary bickering and cred throwing around is a bit off putting for noobs like myself who gains nothing from it and continue to ask questions that would irk people and get the "did you not read the whole thread" spiel.

As always, thanks for the input and I will reread this thread to figure out the answer to if a BOV is a really necessary mod or not.

I'm pretty damn sure that's just the intake sound our hearing! And just wondering, but you said that it's your only mod, did you tune for it with an accessport or anything? Because if not you need to get it tuned!

I loved mine too, but after about a year, it completely failed on me. Great sound but ultimately won't go back.

Can anyone tell me what type of BOV I should be looking for to replace this piece of junk?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-HK...f2ebba&vxp=mtr

All of the decent BOV's I can find are made for a TMIC, and I'm running a FMIC so I don't have the flange. If I could get an adapter to use a TMIC flange I would probably go back to stock.

**Edit: Found what I needed

Hopefully this will help someone else in the future.

fyi for any newbies looking for info about this...you just find whatever flange fits your bov/bpv and then weld it to the fmic piping.

Default I'm a rookie and new to this car

So I want to get a bov and the one that's sounds like the one I want to get is the vta because I want to hear the sound of the air escaping when I shift, but would it harm the engine eventually? And I'm sure if I mod it this way then it would void my warranty right?
