Post WRC: World Rally Championship for PS2

Hello all!!
Just wondering, has anyone played WRC: World Rally Championship for the PS2?
I read the review and it sounded pretty good. I would like to hear some feedback about it before buying it.

I thought the graphics were pretty good...sounds were good...Game play seemed a little lame to me...the speedo says 112 but it looks like you're doing 20...and holding a drift for a prolonged period of time is a little sketchy. There is a horsepower cheat that works pretty good but you have to run in manual mode to take advantage of it...

The game is fun and looks pretty decent (great replays), but the physics are totally off and any damage you do to your car is immediately repaired should you finish the stage. Also, your car will be reset if you go jumping off of a cliff.

So... fun game, but realism buffs will be turned off. Also, good luck finding it. It's become quite rare in stores, so I've heard

My biggest complaint is the slow co-driver calls. You can be through a corner already by the time he tells you what it is. You have to keep one eye on the map to be aware of what's coming up.

Oh, and if you want to win in Great Britain in Professional mode, you'll want to play AS Richard Burns. He's pretty much unbeatable if you're playing as someone else.

Still, loads of fun for any rally fan.

Overall its a good game, and at the very least will tide the craving for Colin McRae 3 (due in September). If you have the Logitech Force Wheel it makes the game MUCH more enjoyable.

My nagging complaints
- Damage Model needs work (very inconsistent)
- You get a brand new car at the beginning of each stage (unrealistic, esp. if you've played Colin McRae 1 & 2)
- No pools of water to splash
- Not enough distinction in each cars handling characteristics
- No Jukebox feature for Instant Replays (really annoying listening to the same 3 songs 8 stages in a row when there are much more tracks available)
- Slow driver calls in later stages (the co-driver calling a sharp right hand turn immediately after you jumped the car, which causes you to go soaring off a cliff does get frustrating. Fortunately, there is a mini-map in the upper-left portion of the screen)

The game is good. The graphics are nice: I like the good depth, you can see way up the road. The car modeling is not as good, but it's not bad. But the game seems a little simplistic, the stages are short and there's not many of them. I prefer Colin McRae 2.0, even with the PS1 graphics.

Other new games, Rally Trophy on the PC is quite good, more realistic physics modeling. Rallisport Challenge on the X-Box is a total hoot. Love that game.

I'm gonna have to pick up a used copy at Blockbuster to tide me over until CM3 is out.

I use the $20 NASCAR wheel and it works well enough. A fun game, just be careful after playing the game for a hour and then making a run to the store! Just like in GT3 you have to remember you're back in the real world

some sorta black,muddy...

Default vs. Rallisport challenge (xbox)

Anybody play both a considerable amount? How do the two stack up against each other?

Thanks.

Rallisport, while not exactly believable itself, has the more realistic and advanced physics model by a long shot. And graphically, Rallisport wins hands-down.

But, it hasn't got a WRC license and while it has a lot of cool cars (like the Escudo, Tacoma hill-climb, a bunch of old Audis, and last year's Subaru Team USA Rally car), it doesn't have the real WRC cars.

They're both pretty good games, but Rallisport is, for me, more fun.

Its a fun game, I bought it for my son for his birthday and play it whenever he's not killing stuff on the PS2(13 yr olds ).

He thinks it's kinda lame but he knows not of what he speaks.

The game could be better, mostly along the line already described. I'd also like a "Take in turns mode" so you can campaign two cars on the same stage without waiting for the stage to load.

Right now its the only one available specifically for the PS2 until VRally3 and Colin McRae come out

I second your opinions, Tim. I'd be hard pressed to name one area where WRC is superior to Rallisport. Sure, you get a superficial impression of participating in the WRC, but it's rather spoiled by being able to whip everybody's butt with the fastest time on virtually every stage (at least on the Normal level).

You guys were a little tough on Cobreth, IMO. I wouldn't say WRC sucks (I like it, but as I said, Colin McRae 2.0 is much more realistic), but I know where he's coming from.

Oh yes, I forgot. WRC has a cool in-car camera view. Too bad the sensation of speed is somewhat reduced in this view relative to the over the hood shot or the bumper cam.

The co-driver pace notes are better on WRC. I cannot play RSC because the pace notes are so lame, they never tell you the distance. (plus I despise the xbox controller) WRC pace note is late sometime, but at least the notes are more complete.

I agree with Bemani, I put Rallisport and the X-box away for WRC on the PS2. WRC has some faults buts its a real thrill to drive with In-Car view, Turning Arrows switched off, at Pro level

I use El Matador ( Carlos Sainz ) and the Ford Focus

I still pop Colin 2.0 once in a while...but in that one the roads are way to wide and I cant see a thing from the In Car view. Had WRC used the damage and service from Colin 2.0 they would have had a pist in my pants boom bam game.
