Ask in the Texas chapter forum? Probably your best bet.

Unless you have a local vendor that you can drive to and pick up stuff from, you're going to have to purchase boutique detailing items over the internet.

well if your going to purchase online then i would say www.detailersdomain.com. There is also a 10% off coupon code for being on this forum. I ordered most of my items through there and i alwaysed recieved everything super fast and it was the lowest price i could find.
If you do order from there i would suggest trying sonax wheel cleaner. It is a very nice product. FYI: I have heard some not so nice things about autogeek..... |

....I've been a customer of theirs for years and never once had a problem with them. I know there is a small group over on the Autopia forums who have made it their personal mission to show their dissatisfaction of AG but to be honest, I believe they are in the small minority. ***8230;.not saying they may not have valid reasons to shop elsewhere, but their problems don't necessarily mean that the vast majority will have issues. IME, it's been the exact opposite. Having said that, there are many good vendors out there (incld. DD, DI, PakShack, Griots, Adams, etc.). I would simply advise folks to shop around for the lowest prices (inlcd shipping & tax) and take a few minutes to research coupon codes. Most detailing websites offer discounts (i.e. 10% off) for forums members and some will have promotional offers on free shipping, additional % off, BOGO sales, etc. The only reason I buy a lot from AG is due to their large selection and competitive pricing. It's cheaper for me to buy most of my supplies at once from them than piece meal from various sites.
Spinx, What kind of detailing supplies are you looking for? There are quite a few decent products that can be had locally and even some real gems that will give boutique products a run for their money. Nairbmik is right though.... If you're specifically looking for boutique stuff, then you really don't have much of a choice (you'll likely need to buy online). |

Basiclly looking for the higher end of products. The parts place just have Nothing eagle one armor all products. Waiting on Jason from Adams to get back to me. Something off the subject. Gonna take out my seats to clean them. Do I need to be concerned with the air bags? |

Remember, just because something costs more or seems to be "exclusive", it doesn't mean it's necessarily better than what you might find on the shelf. There are still plenty of decent OTC products available that are just as good or better than "boutique". It just depends on what you are looking for (which is why I asked). |

....I never said the products were necessarily bad but I did say that I wouldn't trust the work or opinons/judgements of the "detailers" they have working at most dealerships. ....period.

....seriously??? I took the car before they could do more damage. I even told Jose (the porter) to just fill it up and don't wash it. Why would I want hacks like that trying to fix something they obviously couldn't do right in the first place. ....no thanks. Check the detailing forums. They are full of examples of their handywork.

Thinking about doing the compound polish and wax for 100.
What do I ask as far as what they are going to use? What should I be aware of? I have a 03 mbp with 125,000 on the clock. Quite a bit of swirls. http://www.thehandcarwash.com/1670061.html |

Some concerns of mine would be buffer-trails/halograms from the rotary. It takes skill to finish with one and I have a feeling their "polishing" step may be their glaze special they also talk about on that page. ....basically filling minor blemishes and/or halograms from their rotary work. You may want to ask them if they use any products that "fill" or if they will actaully remove all of the blemishes. ....personally, I would rather seek out the services of a reputable detailer either through the regional forums or on a site like Autopia.org. Simply tell them you're just looking to have the paint corrected and an LSP applied (and that you'll take care of the rest). |

Okay some questions.
Compound polish is what? Claying in what? What do I reall need to take out some of the swirls? I really have alot of swirls. Don't want it to be perfet just better than what it looks. I think awhile back I priced a good one for 400 or so. So I know 100 might just be basic. Also with a deal like that will it only be good for a few months? |

Compound polish is what? - Compounds are typically harsher than polishes and used to remove deeper scratches, wetsanding marks, oxidation from neglected paint, etc. Polishes are simply finer grades of product meant to refine the finish. Just think of it like varying grades of sandpaper. ....this is a very basic definition considering the varying characteristics of the numerous products available. Claying in what? - Clay is basically used to help remove contaminants that adhere to the surface of your finish and don't come off during normal washing. You use a lubricant during application which allows the clay to glide along the paint's surface grinding away and/or picking up any abnomalities it encounters as you make your passes. If done properly, a medium or light grade claybar will produce little or no marring to the finish. What do I reall need to take out some of the swirls? - It all depends on the severity of the problem, the condition of the paint, etc. Are you asking this question because you want to do it yourself? I really have alot of swirls. Don't want it to be perfet just better than what it looks. I think awhile back I priced a good one for 400 or so. So I know 100 might just be basic. Also with a deal like that will it only be good for a few months - I don't know. There are so many variables to consider that I really couldn't even answer these questions. All I can say is that is a very cheap price for what they say they do. Personally, I would rather just pay more to have it done right than have someone half-ass it and have to deal with it again a few months later. Also remember that you only have so much clearcoat to work with so.... btw, here's a little flow chart that may help you visualize the typical steps in the process: |

....oops, sorry for the confusion.
Yeah, that diagram is from the folks at AutoGeek. It comes in handy for situations like this to save folks like you and I a lot of typing. ....plus I find its sometimes easier to simply visualize a process in a flow rather than in bullet points/written steps. |
