Default Seasonal market price swings?

Hi all,

Looking into buying my first WRX, probably an 02-03 for sub $8, preferably in the $6-7.5k range. I have the option to buy now, or to buy in June when I get done with my final semester of College. How do prices for cars tend to shift, if at all? Is there a time when deals tend to become more available?

Thanks,
JB

AWD vehicles in the northeast often command a higher price in the winter. The used dealers around here stock up on Legacies, Outbacks, and Imprezas in November because they're cheap, economical, reliable, and great in the snow. Personally, I like buying cars in the spring to avoid an extra winter of snow, ice, and salt abuse on the life of the car.

^^^ what he said. Dealers and even private party sellers know that they can command a premium for capable vehicles during the winter months. It's as simple as people are willing to pay up for the added security of 4WD, or in our case, AWD.

I would wait until the spring when everything starts to thaw and more people are looking into FWD or RWD fun cars and not thinking about AWD. That way you stand the best chance of getting the best deal (similar to buying a motorcycle in the winter).

Best of luck, and now that you have time before you buy, be sure to do your research!

Do there tend to be good examples in the spring? So long as I have a decent selection, I'll be happy

If they haven't wrecked them in nearly 10 years I doubt another year will make that much of a difference. Finish up school, land the job then get the car.
