Thanks

The really sad thing IMO is that the closest paint available to replicate the black chrome on Bugeye STi headlights is the Duplicolor black chrome wheel paint. Unfortunately, the chroming agent in the paint apparently coagulates when sprayed on plastic. Too bad, that could have been the best option! |

Just picked up my first bugeye wagon. First Subaru actually. Very excited about this car. I have a lot of work to do but would like a decent daily driver that could see some track time occasionally.
Sorry for the crap phone pics. Tucked away in its new home! |

I actually never tried the paint. When researching paints to try to replicate the JDM housing color, I found a youtube video with a guy trying the black chrome paint on some plastic housings -- no luck for him. But hell I would try it on the fog inserts just because no one has tried yet, since it's a slightly different polyurethane it couuuuuuld work.

^ nice!
Assuming you have chrome to begin with... This: http://www.duplicolor.com/products/shadow/ more... http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2157567 I picked some of this up last weekend. Haven't used it yet. 2 stage system: a black tint paint (e.g. "kandy") base with clear coat. As long as you're careful I'm sure you can get a really nice mid-tone black chrome without losing much luster. I think Alsa corp makes straight chrome spray paint too: http://www.alsacorp.com/products/kil...llerchrome.htm Expensive set though. |

For those looking for a spray chrome in black, have you checked with a local plating/polishing company? Had a local do some HD parts for a dresser and turned out great plus it'll take the heat better than rattle can. Thinking of doing my JDM's when I pull them back apart to fix the adjustment issue on one of them.
