Default Hyundai releases teaser sketches for Equus flagship

[quote]

New Equus sedan will go on sale on South Korea next month and is not expected to reach the U.S. market

Quote:
New images of a large luxury saloon have leaked onto the Internet and are believed to be official sketches for Hyundai’s upcoming Equus flagship. The new model is currently code-named as the ‘VI’ sedan and is scheduled to be launched in South Korea next month. Power will come from a range of V6 and V8 petrol engines, and there are currently no plans to export the car to North American or European markets.

The current Hyundai Equus first entered production back in 1998 and has barely undergone any changes since then. The car was developed together with Mitsubishi, which sold it as the Proudia in Japan. The Equus was developed primarily for the South Korean domestic market but it has sold other markets, including the Middle-East and Europe, where it’s known as the Hyundai Centennial.

Unlike the current model, the new VI version adopts a RWD architecture to better align it against Germany’s premium sedans. Longer, wider and taller than its predecessor, VI will measure 5,160mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,495mm in height.

The powertrain lineup will include a 3.8L Lambda V6 and a 4.6L Tau V8. A long-wheelbase model will also be offered, complete with a brand new 5.0L version of the Tau V8. Advanced safety features will include a new vehicle stability system and camera-based lane departure warning system. According to Hyundai, the car will also be fitted with LED enhanced head and tail-lamps, as well as Pre-Safe seatbelt technology.

Previous spy shots of a full-size Hyundai sedan, which were thought to be a LWB version of the Genesis, could in fact be the new Equus replacement. Click here for our previous http://www.motorauthority.com/hyunda...ent.htmlreport including spy shots.

:meh:

It's OK, but borrows way too many lines from other carmakers to look really good.

There is a ton of Lexus LS in the nose, as well as some S-class. The body is mimicking the "flame-surfacing" of the 5-series. I also see a little bit of Infiniti G37 sedan in there. Mixing all those styling cues together just doesn't do it for me.

Also this is just a sketch, so you know that the real car would be toned down.

Hyundai might be improving their cars dramatically, but it would be nice to see them come up with their own design-language instead of trying to rip off everyone else.

I'm fine if they start with a bit of copying, but I expect them to branch out into their own designs eventually.

That doesn't look much different than the Genesis.

i agree. Ive been very impressed with Hyundai as of late. Checked out the genesis and its top notch stuff. In addition, their commercials are also very impressive, gives off a luxury car brand feel when i watch it.
