I lost .5-1mpg with my continentals. Stock sized, but 1" more tread on the ground. Tread pattern also slightly more aggressive.

Depending on the 225 you went with the tread width could be the same as my stock sized contis or another inch wider yet.

I lost about 1 mpg or so, Continental PureContact Eco Plus 215/50-17

but the ride is so much quieter. And I feel safe in wet and snow.

Hard to say an exact number, I'm in the 25-27mpg range in sub freezing temps and still driving aggressively. Summer, Spring and Fall I see 27-29.5, after factoring in the 1.4%, I would guess a net loss of 1 MPG.

But considering how awful the stock Yokos were in the snow, and how the Pirellis ride as well as my Blizzak LM22s in the snow, worth it.

Have you guys noted an improved feel in steering response feel after upgrading to higher performance tires?

No, but you won't with the electronically assisted steering. The handling characteristics are improved with a stiffer and wider tire obviously.

But compared to my buddies new 328i, I feel like my Sport Limited is more communicative through the steering wheel. I feel that says a lot about the car.

Mos def. I replaced the stock Yokos with Michelin Pilot A/S and it's smoother, quieter and definitely grips better.

Life is too short to run on crappy tires.

Nope, but for same reason Brys stated, electric assist doesn't provide same feedback hydraulic would. Overall handling is better and compared to my friends 02 wrx and 04 330ci I like the steering on my car better

Alright, I'm probably getting them next week then. Anyone have experience with the Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 vs. the General Gmax AS-03? Handling is the most important factor but noise, steering response and snow/rain handling are also relevant where I live.

Depends on size, location and creases. I have had good luck for certain types with these, but you can end up doing more harm than good if you don't follow directions.

There's some techniques to remove dings with dry ice and a heat gun, but you have to be careful. Really does depend on size, location, and creases.

Tirerack tested both and liked the Hankooks a little better:

I've been getting a really loud clicking noise when I lose traction. Never heard it before on my other subarus. Any ideas? Comes from passenger side of the car. Not the brakes since I'm not braking.

Same thing happens with me. I think it's the traction control. It's a similar noise when the ABS kicks in.

That's where the ABS solenoid block is.

Is the brakes since the car is attempting to slow the slipping wheel.

Yeah, that's the auto braking portion of the VSC nanny.

So that's the fun button you speak of! I need to install one of those before I cook my rotors this winter!
I turned off TC yesterday to claw up my driveway and it smelled like roasted brakes!

Default CVT shift boot

Any CVT owners want to help me track down these parts...Supposedly it's available on the 14+ Forester (LHD and RHD) and it appears they either share parts or may require little modification.

That would be really nice actually. Thought of that when I saw the foreign market ones had them.

I really doubt that VDC dumps more energy into the rotors than a normal stop. Might the smell have been clutch?

Anyone else feel like it doesn't take much to smell the clutch in this car? I was getting out of my unplowed driveway and slipped the clutch a little more than normal for a couple of seconds and the smell was coming through the vents. I was surprised...my 06 impreza didn't do this that easily.

I guess not then. I have come to some fairly hard stops and never smelled anything from the brakes.
