CP635U1 or 86201SC630

if you want SAT that is. i believe it will work the same way as my other forester radio in that all of the speed sensitive features will be disabled by default as our car uses VSS instead of Canbus for the speed information

So if you get a radio with SAT capabilities, what ejse do you need to do or add to make it function? Aside from a subscription.. haha

And that's fine, I don't use the speed based volume anyway. haha

it isn't just speed based volume, it is the lockouts that will be permanently disabled

you will also need a factory tuner, Sirius or XM. I happened to find a cheap Sirius tuner (100) when i got mine so that is what I used, i would have preferred XM but i'm not complaining.

see my thread for details, i think i did a pretty good writeup on how i installed everything

On a side note, let's just say you went aftermarket. Can any of them use adapters to use the factory Bluetooth phone controls and volume/track buttons? All this OEM is kind of a pain. lol

ya, there is an adapter box, and you need to relocate a microphone.

I'm happy with the stock look, so that is the route I am going. I am still coming in at about even to swapping to an aftermarket unit. before the LCD head unit i was quite a bit under. plus i don't like the look of dashkits and trying to source the jdm bezel is not worth the time/money.

True true. I might just get the non-SAT 4.3 and just keep using my iphone Sirius app.. lol Much easier.

anyone happen to have the thread saved on how to bypass lockouts and change eq settings on the 4.3? i swear there was a thread on that unless it is all easily accessible and not hidden like the other radios.

My Pioneer HU gives me full use of all steering wheel controls via the ASWC module I installed. And I bought Pioneer's XM module, so I have satellite radio too.

hey guys,

just wanted to clarify something. when you turn the key to the spot right before starting the car, are all dash lights supposed to come on? i forgot how it was but this morning every light came on. and then when i tried to start it, it didn't.

i turned everything off again, turned the key, all lights came on, turned more, and finally it started... but even that took longer than usually. it used to feel like 1 second, but now it felt like 2 seconds or more.

leaving work in a half hour so i'll see what it does this time. hopefully what it's doing is correct.

To change settings on 4.3" unit:

Credit to original poster...

Code:
"Key in ACC position, radio off: Hold preset button #6 while spinning the right adjust knob 4 or 5 notches; release button, then repeat. Now you're in the adjustable presets pages. Spinning the knob or hitting the "back" button will bring up loudness, EQ, and screen brightness settings, which can be toggled with the knob.

Here's the basic setting I arrived at that makes this thing almost sound good: Loudness and EQ both OFF. Back in the regular tone control: Bass -2, Treble +5.

The main problems with this system are that the bass is boomy, and the midrange is attenuated at some very peculiar frequencies. And the frequency where the mid tone control is set makes it useless altogether - leave it flat. As for SRS Labs, no (printable) comment. (I was a sound pro and studio musician in NYC for many years, so I might be, y'know, just tad picky!)

This setting will give the most natural balance generally, and make the mids sound as close to natural as the unit will allow, especially when you turn up the volume. Now you can adjust the bass and treble slightly as needed per tune, i.e. use the tone controls normally - assuming you've defeated the &^%$# motion lockout (see my How-to post)."
As far as the lockout, even though I am very comfortable working on electronic devices, I was lazy and pressed for time, so I purchased a harness. I had the guy the guy remove pin 19 (red wire if I remember correctly), which will disable the VSS functions.

Note: You will lose the speed compensated volume adjustment.

Here is the pinout:

Is there an upgrade option for the front sway bar as well? I'd like to do both while I'm doing the springs.. Any other suspension things we can do in addition to springs, sway bar(s), and strut bar?

I think I paid approximately $450 to $500 for the whole thing:
  • Pioneer 2400BT head unit
  • Pioneer XM receiver module
  • ASWC module
  • Dash kit
  • Windshield-mounted antenna to use instead of the magnetic antenna that comes with XM receiver

Nice! Thanks for the tip! And all steering wheel buttons work? The only thing you lose is the console USB and aux?
