We had the opportunity to run a Dom 3 XTR here on a car that had a few of Blouch's turbo chargers installed previously. All these charts are run on an 06 STi with absolutely no changes to the car other than the turbo itself.

We are in the process of installing a Blouch 2.4" 3.0XTR on another vehicle as well, so the results will be posted in this thread shortly. We will also be tuning a 2.5R (Non-XTR) with the new 10cm hotside change.

Location:EFI Logics
Car: 06 STI
Tuner: EFI Logics
Dyno Info: Mustang 500SE
Baseline: None
Target Boost: 26
Fuel: 93 + 75/25 Methanol (Aquamist HFS-1)

Basic Modification list:
Dom 3.0XTR with 10cm housing
APS 725
APS 3" Inlet
APS 70mm Intake
Stock Engine
DW 850cc Injectors
APS 3.5" TBE
TGV deletes
Stock Manifolds
38mm EWG routed back in to exhaust
ProDrive Boost control solenoid
Aquamist HFS-1 (Single nozzle)
Cobb AP V2

Charts:

Blue Graph - Blouch Dom3 XTR 3" inlet 10cm - 93 Octane + Meth - 408hp 388ft/lb @ 26psi

Red Graph - Blouch Dom3 XTR 3" inlet 10cm - 93 Octane + Meth - 408hp 388ft/lb @ 26psi

Is funny comparing your graphs to IAGs.

On your charts you clearly see that the old DOM 3 52lb spools faster than the newer DOM 3 XT-R 55lb; but on IAGs the newer version kill the old turbo on spool and power .

I would like to see the old DOM 3 with the big 10cm2 back housing, I am starting to think that the stupid wheel does nothing. I remember a long time ago that I asked someone knowledgeable if the weight of billet wheel had anything to do with the spool up time, the answer was NO, I wish I could find it.

Just like BB the actual weight of the wheel should not noticeably affect steady acceleration runs, like a dyno run or a street 3rd or 4th gear 2000-7000 rpm run.

What it will do is help with response, and boost recovery after a gear change (assuming not FFS).

Think about it, it is science, and all makes sense.

So the DOM 3 XTR spools slower than the old DOM 4?

Seems to make sense with the significantly larger exhaust housing. Any possibility this car had a pre-turbo exhaust leak or a boost leak?

It does. Makes me wonder if the 10 cm housing is really the way to go for the smaller DOM2.5xtr.

Yeah. I'm thinking I'll just go with old 2.5 or 3.0 with the 8 cm.

I wonder if one could get a new DOM 2.5xtr with 8 cm housing?

In other words, an old DOM 2.5 with new billet wheel.

Im sure tuning has a lot to do with the results on these turbos. just because X vendor shows X gains and X spool doesn't mean the turbo isnt functioning properly.

it is possible Jorge had a slightly better approach to tuning the turbo at IAG

i asked when i was trying to get the dom 3 xtr with a 8cm housing and they said no ; (

i was thinking logically this will technically get the turbo to spool faster with a smaller housing?

Tuning can certainly have an effect on spool, but not in the range of 1000RPM. The interesting part is not the absolute spool they're showing but rather the relative. IAG shows the XTR turbo severely outspooling the original DOM3 while EFI is showing it to be significantly laggier than the original DOM3. Both cars in each comparison are tuned by the same tuner as far as I can tell.

To be honest, the IAG comparison seemed way too good to be true and made me wonder if it was done in the same gear or even the same platform (04-06 STI or 07+). People always want the magical turbo that will spool faster AND make more power. Sadly that almost never happens. Physics tends to win over in the end

yeah, its tough to push air through the same size hole faster while still being able to flow more air overall.

our subaru community seems to focus more on the compressor than the turbine cause we've been stuck with 7 and 8 cm for so long. the turbine is the true shaper of your powerband. you cant use the compressor to its potential if the turbine wont let it.

Hey, I just tuned my DOM 3XTR for pump gas and the car is running great with no det. I noticed that the Defi EGT Gauge is climbing up to 9 though. Is 9 too high?

And my external wastegate is no longer opening......kind of concerning me......but i picked up 2psi with the mbc in the same spot.
I would trust the map sensor....which one you running? Anytime i ran more than 27psi the EWG was almost silenced.

I had a hose pop of the compressor side of the turbo one time and ran the 20g unrestricted to 32-33psi doing a 70-130 pull an empty interstate. Thank god i run stupid amounts of meth (900cc of 100%) probably saved the motor. I pulled the log and only got -2* pulled from 5500 on.

Morale of the story, no fuel cut past 24psi....just be careful duder.

^^^ I'm sure the large 725 fmic didn't help with the lagg.

Unfortunately the car with the regular 2.5R with the 10cm hotside was an engine job, so we're awaiting his break-in. We'll be tuning this car on Monday.

The first car we installed a 2.4" 3.0XTR on is just about read after doing pistons and a FMIC as well, so that car will hopefully get tuned tomorrow.

We'll be doing another 2.4" 3.0XTR in a few weeks as well.

Please post the dyno chart as soon as Chris is done working his magic. Please list mods too. Hopefully it will be close to my mod list.
