Fuel Pump Question
2.5rs w/ 04 usdm wrx stuff.. Is there a way to get around the fuel pump controller? I'll be using a walbro 255lph. Possible, or do i have to suck it up and wire in that gay ass controller?? Any help is appreciated!

I don’t understand why everybody tries to get around the controller. Is it the cost for the part or the “so-called” complexity to wire it in?
Honestly wiring the controller is a piece of cake! Even more so if you wire it up towards the ECU that way you only have to run 1-wire back as opposed to 2-wires up. I wired mine on a 12” whip right at the ECU and it’s mounted under the kick-plate adjacent to the ECU and hasn’t given me one problem since. If you don’t have a plug for it no big deal either. Carefully cut the plastic housing around the terminals and solder directly to them then shrink’em. You can also use spade-terminals with shrink but it’s a tight fit with a good possibility for shorting between spades. I choose solder and it was easy.. As for the part, find it used or with your harness otherwise it’s expensive new… Good luck |

yeah, i'm not worried about the wiring.. but if theres a way around it, i'd like to do it.
So worst comes to worst, i don't use it, will it not run, drink a ton of gas, etc...? |

so i was thinking.. the fuel pump controller is essentially just a voltage regulator.. similar to an 02 sensor or something like that.. Obviously the CEL eliminator kits are nothing but a resistor..
Does anyone know if the same principal would apply to this, to make the computer think its just running full speed all the time? Basically so i don't have to use the FPC. |

does the controller just prevent the pump from pumping hardcore under normal conditions?
what if you are using a standalone? |

i'm sure a standalone would totally take that thing out of the equation. I'm not sure, but i don't see why it wouldn't.
I'm just trying to figure out what kind of adverse affects the computer will cause by seeing either A) no signal from that thing or B) "full" voltage by using some sort of resistor setup. |

i would used a standalone if you dont want the controller. i dont think the computer would freak out or anything.

People have wired the fuel pump up directly to power so it just runs constantly. I'm pretty sure it doesn't put you into limp mode but it may throw a cel code.

I’m surprised you haven’t gotten the answer yet. As stated above, people have hard wired the pump w/o the controller for constant flow. Gets you out of the garage and back on the road but make fuel tuning for performance unrealistic.
As for the answer, perhaps you should search for quicker results as I know it’s been covered several times already… |

Why not just buy the controller... It's only 85.00 from www.subaruparts.com or from www.1stsubaruparts.com for 80.75. They're not that hard to wire in. On most of them, I mounted them where they go in the rear area. On my legacy (1995 LSI Sedan) I mounted it where the cruise control computer is (Right behind the dash, mounted to the dash bar) and removed the cruise control.

There was a mention in another post, that for some reason the variable pump doesn't like to be driven by a constant voltage. Electrically, I can't think of why that is. I was planning on finding a cheap US WRX pump and running it constant battery voltage for my '00RS -> '95 WRX swap. Anybody else see a problem with this? -Rob |

I don't see any reason why either. In my swaps I've used the fuel pump controller though, so I don't have any experience in how things work without it.

I just sucked it up and bought the FPC. I don't want to have to worry about it. Thanks for the input guys

^^ Good job! If your going to do it, do it right! On another note, we have 3 fuel questions on the charts right now, its a shame we cant merge them into one thread?
