Mazda 626 Turbo??!!
My GF has a Mazda 626/MX6 2.2 Turbo car. It's a 1988 model. I knew she had a mazda but never knew what kind of engine. She told me a while ago it had 'turbo' and that it had some get up and go, but well, i kinda humored her a little.... hehe...i'm dumb. She had no clue it was turboed..except she read the sticker on the back that said Turbo.
Well tonight, her alternator died so i was taking look at it and had her pop the hood. Lo and behold! Right there on the engine block... 2.2L Turbo... i was in and started poking around...it has a front mount intercooler hehe.. But i didn't find the turbo though..so i need to look more. I told her that we'll be keeping her car for a while I have plans for it now Problem is..got a bad oil leak somewhere and the alternater is bad. So we'll see how that works out when she gets it fixed. It's also an Automatic too. But looking at some stats from that model year...it has 146 hp @ 4300 RPM. Not sure how much boost it's putting out though. so i'm pretty excited to see she has a 'turbo' car. hehe. I had to explain to her what a turbo was though... anyhoo. i'm going to bed hehe ~V

Cool. I will be turbo'ing my '92 Miata (1.6L) in the next month or so. With a FM IC and running 7.5 lbs of boost, I should have about 175 hp at the crank. Concidering the motor has 116 stock at the crank, this should be pretty respectable.
BTW: The Mazda turbo motors are pretty tough. The Miata motor is the exact same motor the 323GT (turbo) ran, only since the Miata is N/A they bumped the compression from 8:1 to 9.5:1. Still has the oil squirters and everything. Lots of guys are running up to 12psi (with TECII or Link engine management) to the tune of about 250hp with no longevity problems on a stock engine! Even at 7psi I should be able to SPANK any relatively stock Rustang GTs I run into. So, good luck with it. With some old school parts and some new school management, that thing could be a great sleeper BEAST! |

Now thats a Sleeper...
My friend has the same Mazda MX-6 turbo but he's upgraded to a T04 and that bad boy runs a mid 12 sec. quarter...Its the ultimate sleeper and all the work was done by himself with the turbo and manifold coming from Miami International Turbo #305 888 3014...
Most Turbo Motors leak oil somewhere as the pressure weakens the various seals and gaskets...Clean the motor, drive it around hard, and look for where it got messy again, Thats where its leaking... Zee |
