Question Removing 'Subaru' from trunk lid

So Im thinking of removing the 'subaru' lettering from the trunk lid but have several concerns.

First, are they held on with that crappy double sided white tape that is almost impossible to get entirely off without something like Gunk Off?

Second, supposing I can get them off without residue on a 2002 what would be the likely-hood of the paint underneath being different due to fading?

Lastly, what would be the best method for taking off the lettering? Heat gun, adhesive remover, or sheer force?

I want to put on just a Subaru logo but would like to take off the lettering first, thanks in advance.

going here http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/search.php?
and searching the Interior / exterior mod forum for threads w/ "debadge" in the title will yield MANY helpful threads.
like these:

i would get a blow dryer, heat it up so the glue is soft, get some fishing line and slide behind the letters to pull them off

you will then have the goopy residue left over, go get some googone and soak it with it, then the goop should come off as easy as that. make sure if you use a towel to get one that doenst scratch paint.

I'd also be interested in hearing some experiences with this. I'd really like to debadge, but not if the silver under the letters is going to be an entirely different shade than the paint that's been exposed for ~8 years.

I did my '04 a year ago with a blowdryer, fishing line and goo-gone. After all was said and done, there was a distinct outline around the edges of the letters that was mostly due to all of the tar/dirt that had built up in those thin gaps over the years. After a full clay, polish, wax, it all dissapeared.

I did mine with a blow dryer and dental floss. After I heated the letters and cut them off I reheated the adheasive and (with a glove on) rolled the glue up and off. Followed up with some wax. Everything came out great.
