it takes off all that hazy film stuff and a lot of the little black spots, as far as rust i would imagine it would remove some of it, but a good cleaning with a fairly strong degreaser should remove most of the built up road crap. ultimately the power ball is meant to be a polisher not so much a cleaning tool, and it will most likely never remove moderate to severe scratches in stainless steel as it is a very hard metal.
